Pred taper is a life saver

hi all,
I posted recently that my taper didn't work and you guys pointed out that I was on too low a dose.  thank you all for your input.  i saw the neuro last week and he agreed with you all.  My Gp had prescribed the last one not the neuro.  So anyway, I got 80mg daily for 5 days followed by a drop of one tablet a day til I'm off them.  I had no relief at first, as i was expecting PF after 48 hrs and it didn't happen.  But I had a PF day yesterday and my 2nd PF day is just about coming to an end.  it flippin bliss!  This cycle has been relentless.  i forget if it's been 15, 16 or 17 weeks now, with no Pf days at all and the pain pattern has been all over the plaec with loads of alarm headaches too.  Even if the taper stops working tomorrow I've had 2 days of nothing and that had to be worth it.
If anyone out there doesn't know of this taper, and desperatley needs a break, I recommend it.  There's more experienced than me here so take a look at the threads previously posted and have a think about whether it could be good for you.

Hiya,

So glad to hear your getting some PF time! I started a Pred taper 4 days ago and it also wasn't a high enough does. Got an email from the GP today saying she has agreed to my request for an 80 mg, 7 day start...hopefully that will kick these crazy breakthroughs in the a#&! and I can get back to some semblance of normalcy...whatever that means! laugh

Hope the PF days stretch on and on...

Congrats on the pain free time. While you're on the taper does he have you building up on any prevents? Verapamil, lithium, topomax??? I ask because if I go on a pred taper and come off of it with nothing else in my system I get harder then before I went on the taper. Feels like the pred was just a dam holding the water back and when it's gone I catch a tidal wave. If not I'd suggest having oxygen at the ready in case the prednisone doesn't break the cycle!

Sending wishes for a looooong remission!!! Grin

yes guiseppe, he astarted me on verapamil.  I'm on 80 mg 3 times a day, but I'm expecting when the taper wears off to go back to normal as the neuro says that my verapamil dose won't have gone up enough by then to make any difference.  But you know what?  i've felt so much like my old self for a few days and hope to have a few more days til then, and I feel rested enough from the pain to go back, which is inevitable.  I say rested but since I've been PF I've been like a madwoman, cleaning, chores, visiting, and even have gone back to my writing.  Oi feel re-born and even if that's just for 2 weeks tops......it's been worth it.
