Bubble Gum & Water

OK, I know this will sound odd, but I am 100% serious.  I hope that this technique will work for some of you.

I'm in the middle of a cycle and up until this past weekend, I've been hit with KIP-8's at night.  In a fit of desperation, I tried something new.  Chug 10oz of COLD water (a la "water X 3" technique) and chew a piece of gum (Vigorously).  The result: pain peaks at KIP-6 and the hit is over after about 10 minutes.  Go ahead and call me nuts, but it works for me every time.

Anyway, if anyone is willing to try this technique, please let us know how it works out for you.

Just an FYI, I don't have any scripts for REAL medications yet.  My first neuro appt is in November.  So, I'm just trying to get through the next few months.

In the meantime print out everything you can to take with you to the new Dr. when you go.

Chug one of the energy drinks like rock star, red bull, etc.  Strong coffee, ice packs, sit in front of the AC or a fan...these might help you get through til November too.

I won't call you nuts but I have never heard of the bubble gum technique.  Undecided

Fair enough, maybe a donation of a jigsaw puzzle or such would keep them off the board.

I'm suggesting that if you don't have anything positive to say then either use the PM or shut up!! I've been around here for a while and I have had guts full of the negative comments creeping in all over the board lately!

Actually, someone else posted about this before (I believe that was the day don came back as chewy)...
If you really think about it... could chewing vigorously actually help draw blood away from your head and into your jaw? Maybe...
Probably useless for a full on k10...but a k5?

Why, you remember the very day he came back into your life again.  You have a crush on him, don't you.  Ah, the serenading sound of bagpipes under your bedroom window at 3:00am.

Damn, I remember that too.  He appeared a stranger like CIA undercover, more like Peter Sellers though, which jonny ID'd in about 20 minutes.    Grin

I would suggest that you STFU entirely for awhile. Save up a buck and go get yourself a handful of Bazzokas to get you through the learning process.

I honestly can not believe you guys remember that! Most people think Chewy is a knockoff for Chewbacca. It was actually a stupid and ludicrist post about chewing gum (like this one) that drew me out.

Um... I hate to admit it, but Nani might be right on the chewing thing...
Before I was diagnosed... No... Before I had ever HEARD of cluster headaches, I used to think these "things" had something to do with my issues with low blood sugar. Whenever I felt "that feeling" coming on, I'd quickly make a couple of peanut butter sandwiches and chew them up as fast as I could. Now, after reading this post, it dawns on me that it did seem to help a little. Like malkidm posted, it didn't take them away, just help calm them a bit.
There just might be something to that! Weird!  confused2

Whatever is working for you, keep doing it! Good luck finding some relief, and hope your appt. with the new doc helps out!

I thought I heard a gas leak can cause painful headaches.  First thing I did was have the house checked for gas leaks in the basement and near the furnace.
Nothing to do with gum but you just reminded me of that.

I chewed gum in class once and had to stick it in my hair.  I guess the teacher knew it was drawing blood away from my brain.  Wish she had explained that to me.

It's never too late to start.  I miss the three minutes of flavor.  I swallowed it once and was surprised a gum tree didn't grow in my stomach, so you never know.
