Bone Spurs and Deviated Septum

The ENT said my friend has a deviated septum and bone spurs in the nasal area and that's probably why he's having constant burning pain in the left sinus (maybe it's not "shadows" )and why he had 10 weeks of daily CH attacks. I hope he's right and surgery is the cure. Just wanted to tell you I think all CH sufferers should go to a GOOD ENT doctor to see if anything is pushing on your trigeminal nerve. I'll keep you posted on the outcome. Thanks for all your help.

I too, have a deviated septum (and to the left, my usual cluster side) But I have also had the random cluster attack on the right side.
I'd had a number of head ex-rays due to injury over my life, but it wasn't until a severe assult that left my face very badly beat up and swollen that the diviation was seen. The ENT at the time stated that blunt force trauma such as I suffered, in addition to the internal swelling and external swelling, that this is what caused the diviated septum. This was in the late 1990's and by all determinations I've had CH since I was at least 18, and I'm 42 now.
Not all of us were lucky to get Dx right away. Many of us suffered for many years before we knew what the hell this was.
I've thought about surgery to help the diviation because I know I'd be able to breathe better, (at least when I'm not under attack), but there is that part of me that doesn't want to piss off the beast.
I'm also pretty aware that the diviation makes attacks a bit worse, at least in MHO. But I have the beast cages well right now with some alternative methods, and if my trade off is just a breathying issue on my left side, I'll take it.

Seems like we've kicked this one around before-how many of us had deviated septums or facial trauma? I broke my nose in 1975 (college student at the time, and bars really shouldn't have glass doors) but CH didn't start until 1981.
I have a friend who went through surgery to correct her deviated septum-in the hopes of reducing the number of sinus infections she gets. Dhe was pretty miserable for a couple of weeks-had some kind of splint shoved up in her nose.
Think I'll keep my kinked nose.

I hope your friend has been luck than I did. Before I was properly diagnosed with CH, I had a doctor recommend the deviated septum surgery to alleviate my headaches. This did nothing for me, except cause a lot of pain.
The post op experience was horrible for me. I remember on the way home I had to pull over so I could throw up a massive amount of blood. You also have to irrigate your nose for weeks after, which is neither pretty nor fun.
