preventive ?

Question for those of you that have been on Topamax. I have been on it for over 3 years now, and after finding my ideal daily dosage (which for me was not 200mg+), it appears that it is losing it's overall effectiveness. While on this dosage, I've occasionally had the break thru attack, and daily shadows, but just recently it doesn't seem to be working like it had been. I've been worrying myself to death about having to go through this crap without a decent preventive (tried the verap/pred. combo a few years ago). Guess I could try ramping up the dosage again, but I really hate being zombified. Any other suggestions?

I've been using 1200 mg a day of lithium as a prevent when my cycles fire up. It has very few side effects for me and has been working well for many years. M ight be worth a shot. Guiseppi

If it's losing it's overall effectiveness, it's time to talk to your doctor again and prepare for 'Plan B'. Goodluck UNsolved

The verap/lithium combo works well for me. 480 of verap and 900 of lithium. good luck.

Yes, it's an old problem for effective meds to stop working for ??? reasons. Really is no alternative to starting a new round of trials to find something which works for you. http://www.plainboard.com/ch/chtherapy.pdf Here is a link to read and print and take to your doctor. It describes preventive, transitional, abortive and surgical treatments for CH. Written by one of the better headache docs in the U.S. (2002)
