any info please?

I just got back from the neuro today. It has been 3 weeks since I saw him last. When I intially went to him and he diaganosed me with CH's he gave me O2. It takes away about 75-80% of the HA's. When I went back today he also gave me Relapax, and told me to take one when I felt a HA coming on. I got home and read a little bit about it, and it says it is for migrain HA's. why would he prescribe me this? Any info would be greatly appreciated-- I don't seem to understand why he would prescribe this to me.  Thank You--Brian

There are "smarter" drug people on the board coming after me, but as I understand it, many of the physical responses are the same same in migrain and in cluster. So there are a lot of meds, like imitrex, that have proven very effective for both types of head aches.

I have never had relpax but I've seen people post postive results about it. Glad you're getting relief with the oxygen. just a few pointers, only cuz I'm not sure what info the doc set you up with:

Start the 02 at the first twinge of a headache coming on.
Make sure you use a 'Non Re Breather" or a "Cluster Mask". It's CRITICAL you breathe pure oxygen for it to be truly effective, rebreathing your air or getting outside, diluted air will dramatically decrease its effectiveness. Good luck let us know how the Reflax works for you.

Guiseppi is dead right about the O2.  As for Relpax, I haven't heard of it helping C/H.  I could be wrong though.

I can echo the above gentlemens feeling about Relpax. I have been on the board for a while now and from what I can gather the most popular and effective preventatives are Verapamil, Topomax and Depakote in that order.

Cheers

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.
