Just wondering, I haven't used the caffeine tricks alot, but when I did they do seem to help. Anyway, my doc warned me against using the caffeine tricks in abundence for caffeine is known to possibly cause the dreaded rebound HA. Has anyone experienced this problem or is this just another case sensative drawback?

Caffeine is addictive. If you use a lot, then stop, you could get a headache. This is not a rebound headache, because you don't need to have the first headache. Does that make any sense? Anywhay, I guess a better way to say it is to call it a withdrawal headache. Recently, I accidentally bought decaf coffee, had my usual three cups in th morning, got a mysterious headache, certainly not as bad as a cluster, but it was all over the top of my head and it went on all day until I figured out what was going on. Nice big cup of black-with-sugar and it was gone. I was treated by Dr. Gregory House's brother, Maxwell. Sorry, -tommyD

| Caffeine (coffee for me) helps me a lot, unless I'm destined for a really serious hit. But it's usually best used if you get to it early on and fast. I couldn't find much on Spike Shooter, except that it's mostly in Colorado and California so far. Here's a link to a promo: http://www.bevnet.com/news/2007/02-07-2007-Spike.asp Pat

yea, you're right, that seems to be a more accurate interpertation of what a caffeine HA could and or would be. But I do love it so! Haven't used it alot as an abort, but can't move in the morning without 'ol joe.

I use it for the daytime hits. Caffeine has killed more cluster attacks for me that anything over the years. Your doc is correct in that once you attain levels of caffeine over 2000 to 3000 mg in one day it begins to fail. And you then need more and more. The demon will catch up to you ...that can be construed as a rebound when in fact you just are using too much caffeine.Dont use it exclusively but as another weapon. You dont want to slam 4 monster drinks at 11:30 pm do you? Trex would be better then. A hit at 11:30am would deserve the old caffeine slam. I have been awoke at 2 in the morning slam 4 mountain dews and go right back to sleep..gotta work, and out of trex. thebb

Good info, thanks! I wish I could get Jolt Gum from my neck of the woods, though. I used one gum for shadows before and because I chew a lot of gum each day (xylithol, which is good for teeth, though), so I could use that one. Now I'm using Vicks Red Energy tabs, which are basicly throat medicine with caffeine and taurine and guarana. They have 25g of caffeine in each tablet and help fast. I've found Jolt Cola drink from few places. Naturally, it doesn't have some of those energy drinks I can get here in Finland such as Thunder, Red Devil, Spun, Ed, Teho and Mixxed Up, but their caffeine amount is about the same than Red Bull's. If you have a problem with using energy drinks cuz of the way they taste, and you can handle the tase of an orange soda (sunkist, orange crush, etc..), I'd reccommend trying Rip It (Citrus X). Tastes awesome, and has quite a bit of Taurine and caffeine. 16 oz. can, has 2000 mg. Taurine, and 200 mg. caffeine. (not as much as spike, but more than Red Bull). And it tastes good!! Oh.... and it only costs $1.09 per can (U.S.$)!! Just my 2 shillings, Adam

Yeah Saffy, they seem to be! But they dont react as quickly as the enrgy drinks do, they seem to be more effective in preventing a hit from coming back ie used in conjunction with a drink not to replace it. My experience anyway.

Caffeine is known to cause headaches when you stop drinking it. Some people are more sensitive than others. I used to drink a lot of coffee in the morning and none in the afternoon, so when the caffeine left my system, I got a little headache. For me, the trick is to keep the caffeine intake regular. I also do not drink espresso anymore at all because it gave my system a big spike of caffeine. Rather than do massive amounts of caffeine, like 300mg in a beverage, taking it in slowly helps me not get a headache.

| well this one idiot doctor I had told me to stop taking caffein claiming that I was having "rebound ha's" she said I should not have any for at least a week I waited a week and a half and things seemed worse...... of course all the different medications they tried before either did nothing or made things worse...... at the end 4 doctors told me they had no idea what was causing the headaches and I have not been back to that hospital since.....

Just a note about caffeine: I had a very good neurologist helping me with CH tell me that although the substance has a very good, fast, and effective quality to shrink swelling, it also has the capacity to dehydrate - which will aggravate the condition. She told me to make sure that I was constantly drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated. Right now, I'm at the peak of my cluster: 2-3 each night; 2-3 each day. Of these six headaches, at least one will be a Kip8 or 9 lasting more than an hour...usually up to 90 minutes. In other words, I'm pretty much slamming coffee continuously. If I remember to "water X 3" as often as possible, I won't dehydrate from practically ODing on caffeine. Although I generally prefer coffee to more modern "energy drinks", I would imagine things like Red Bull have the same capacity to dehydrate. My point is, the "water/water/water" thing is a good idea regardless, but particularly important when using caffeine as an abortive anti-inflammatory. That's all!

Personally recommend one of those Italian style espresso jobbies. The small aluminum stove top percolator that's good for two medium sized cups with decent coffee and lots of brown sugar, tastes damn nice and solves the dry mouth from the O2. Also takes the taste of the first Red Bull can away that you chugged when you first got on the O2. Still dream of getting a full blown 'Gaggia' espresso maker on the NHS but can't see that one coming through in my lifetime.

I am sure that most of the UK members are well aware that the amount of strong high caffeine products in the UK are very few and far between. You have red bull, restless and for a hot drink i have found the strongest is Rocket fuel. I managed to get some cocaine through e-bay but that was sooo expensive. Any thoughts?
