I never tried Depakote, so I can't comment on it. I did, however, have to use methergine after I delivered my 2nd kid (decades ago). It almost killed me. The docs were surprised I didn't have a stroke or heart attack from the reaction. It's a powerful vasoconstrictor. I have it listed on my "meds allergy" forms.

I've not tried Methergine.  I think there are a few here who have. Hopefully they will pipe up.

I did try Depakote.  Started out at 500mg and ramped up to 1500mg.  It had no effect, but then, nothing else has worked for me either, so don't put too much weight to that.

Yup, done them both, neither helped ... and with Methergine I couldn't use Imitrex or DHE (THAT SUCKETH) !!

Edited to add: I went all the way up to 1750mg/day with the Depakote with no results.

I tried methergine right after Sandoz took Sansert off the US market several years ago. As Nani describes, it is used primarily for post-partum women with bleeding issues. It is related to Sansert (methysergide) chemically, but I found it to be of little use.

Methysergide, on the other hand, is one of my miracle drugs. Powerful stuff, but a few really nasty side effects - most of which go away after 24-48 hours. Side effects which, when you become intractable, aren't all that bad compared to the relief afforded.
