Hello Everyone, Hope you are all pain free. I do have a new treatment the doctors at the pain clinic prescribed. As you may have guessed it is called 'Cesamet'. Also known as 'Nabilone'. From what I understand, the drug is mainly used for chemo and has had deceit success with treatment of chronic pain. Like a lot of us, I fall into the later. I could not find any materials relating to the treatment of chronic, unresponsive cluster headaches. Maybe there isn't any. Has anyone had or know of someone who has be treated with this medication? What is helpful? Issues with it? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Paul

A search on PubMed pulled up 160 hits dating back to 1985. Nothing about use with headaches but one "guess" that it may affect neurotransmission in the hypothalamus may explain why it might be tried for CH.

I've never heard of it and have never had it prescribed. Please let us know how it works out for you. I'm always ready and willing to add another tool to my arsenal! Hope it provides a knock out punch for you. Guiseppi

Cesamet; related to marijuana and used to treat nasuea and vomiting. I'm not sure how that could be helpful for CH. Also says it's not available in the US 'for commercial use' UNsolved

That is surprising that the states don't have. Come to think of it, I'm not surprised. If a medication is in any way related to marijauna it will have a tough time getting approval. I started on Cesamet back in the middle of March and have noticed a somewhat decreased level of pain. As well as an increased appetite. Something which is hard to come by when pain levels are high daily. Most of the time my urge to eat when sore is next to zero. So it has helped on that front. Marjuana has been constantly pushed since I first became chronic (not by caregivers). If this is the best it works then it would be more trouble than it would be worth. It would work best for low to moderate pain but it should stay away from the more severe cases. Still to have something that can drop a Kip 9 down to a 8 or 7 isn't a bad thing. Paul
