hello, my neuro sent me to an MRI, i just wanted to know, could it PROVE that i have clusters, or just prove that i dont have a tumor or something else going around there? second, he prescribed me Prednisone, 60mgs a day, when i start to tap it off i get my clusters back in like a kip 4-5, is that normal? how do you guys react with Prednisone? he said i should be "cluster free" with it. Thanks!

what else has he put you on? Roids are used typically as a transitional medication to help give a bit of a break as the preventative medication reaches therapeutic levels. It is common for attacks to come back full force as you taper........BUT you do need to taper.

An MRI won't prove that you have clusters, but it will rule out other serious problems. It's a good idea to have it done. Prednisone always gives me a break, but (Like E said), the attacks start again once I taper down off of it. Goodluck UNsolved

Ditto, CH is kind of like Alzheimers...they make sure it's nothing else..then figure it's CH As far as pred, if I use only pred with nothing else, when I go off the pred I get absolutely creamed. Need to look at an additional prevent, like verapamil, lithium or depakote, along with 02, when you start off that pred! Good Luck!!! Guiseppi

even if you go down by 10mg you get it back very hard? i just get it but very very low, not full power.. plus it makes me feel like a woman while PMSing, my stomatch hurts, i have all these "shadows" all the time (makes it hard for me to know when an attack is coming)

Prednisone is a harsh med for me. I break out in acne on my back like I'm 15 years old again! I get the round face, I gain weight, pretty much like my wifey pms'ing...(DON NOT TELL HER I SAID THAT) I taper down 10 mg every two days. Back when I used only prednisone, about the time I get around 15-20 mg a day, it's like the dam breaks and I get creamed with high kip hits. Now when my cycle starts I do the pred for two weeks while I ramp up on my lithium. By the time I'm down to the 20 mg range on my pred I'm up to 1200-1500 mg of lithium. Blocks about 80-90% of my hits while I'm on cycle. Oxygen, oral cafergot, and the ever occasional imitrex jab knock down the rest. Guiseppi

Okay well thanks alot, my neuro is a known expert in israel for clusters and all the rare neuro conditions.. so when he said that the prednisone should have blocked my clusters for good and it does come back in a kip 4-5 scale when i taper the dosage down i tought maybe im a rare case... oh and btw, MRI not approved, they approved a CT tough, is that enough? my neuro is out of the country for a week so i cant get his reaction about this... Thanks again!

All I know whan I was getting hit all night and day, the Dr wanted to put me in hospital on a drip and steroids and I dropped HIM like a hot potato.....I knew enough what all that stuff did and all the meds I was taking only causing more hits....so I tapered off the triptans and the preventatives and just stuck with the Oxygen....I carried it around with me like a child for awhile.....and of course Melatonin at night....Pretty soon the hits slacked off and got somewhat manageable with the oxygen....That was 2 years ago....No more crazy Neuro Drs for me....I have only Oxygen, Melatonin and lots of glyconutritionals in my arsonal and I feel the best I've felt in all my 16 cluster years...All those drugs have too many side effects for me.....

80 mgs of Pred and 960mgs of Verapamil with a taper on both up and down broke mine. Been painfree ever since. Patrick_A
