I do know a couple of people that took neurontin for clusters. Feedback is pretty good.

My husband was on Lyrica ( Pregapentin ) which helped a little but not much. He was switched to Neurontin and when the dose got up to 2700 mg per day it worked quite well for him, reducing the intensity of the hits a fair bit. Just before his last cycle ended, he was on Verapamil 720 mg, Neurontin 2700 mg, Amitryptiline 300 mg and was using oxygen, Imigran and Zyprexa as abortive and his CH was very manageable. The Neurontin and Verapamil blocked most of the hits with oxygen and Imigran taking care of the rest. Occasional Zyprexa was used. Annette

It is primarily used as an anti-seizure medication, however it also has proven to have analgesic properties (that are not yet understood) shown to reduce or eliminate nerve pain. Similar to Lyrica, Gabapentin is being used to treat severe nerve pain associated with shingles (Herpes Zoster) and other disorders that cause chronic nerve pain. In addition to the typical side effects we’ve become familiar with, there are specific precautions for Diabetics, children under the age of 12, and the elderly. “Diabetes patients - Gabapentin may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely. Ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine”. “Gabapentin may cause emotional or behavioral side effects in CHILDREN 3 to 12 years of age. If the following side effects occur, notify your doctor immediately: emotional "swings", hostile or aggressive behavior, problems concentrating, decreased performance at school, an increase in restlessness or hyperactivity”. “Gabapentin should be used with extreme caution in CHILDREN younger than 3 years old; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed”. “Use Gabapentin with caution in the ELDERLY; they may be more sensitive to its effects”. The following link provides several pages of of information (from basic to professional) on this drug. (including a 2005 Pfizer/FDA recall of Nurontin due to equipment failure that resulted in empty and partially filled 100mg capsules (page 2) – if anyone was taking this drug late 2004 early 2005 they may have been taking nothing or severly reduced dosages). http://www.drugs.com/search.php?searchterm=Gabapentin&is_main_search =1 Tom

for me, neurontin did not help with ch. Plus, it lowered my pain tolerance and affected my emotions - ie: I once walked into work and threw myself sobbing into my supervisors stunned arms. It also affected my perception of how fast I was driving and I got a stern warning. It does work for some. Pete/Batch had great success. Charlotte
