Verapamil is helping but.........
« on: May 23rd, 2007, 7:30pm »

I am so swollen up.  I can't even see my ankles and I have really skinny ankles!  My fingers are also swollen.  I read up and found out that this is a side effect I should immeadiately contact my Dr. about and I will be calling him tomorrow.  I'm also more tired than ussual.  Hard for me to stay awake until 10:00pm and that is not at all like me.  I have no other side effects, not even the constipation that many do experience.

Has anyone else experienced these side effects?  I've been mostly pf since starting the verap except when I ran out on a Friday and thought I could wait until Monday for the refill.....(Don't do that!!!!!)

Guess it's back to the drawing board for me  Embarassed.

I love you too, snookie wookums!!

Beth, I would call the doc and see what they say.  I never was swollen like that, but i did develop tremors and shakes like I have parkinsons in the north pole.  That is also one of possible side effects.

My 480mg of Verap. daily is working for me but nothing is swelling on this body, absolutely NOTHING! laugh

Tried going off Verap. for a bit and that was a mistake. Memory loss is my side effect, but can live with that.

I think if it was me I'd be seeing a Doc soon.

Best to you Beth, hang in there.

Verapamil can cause peripheral edema, my husband experienced swelling of the ankles when he got to 960 mg and it disappeared when the dose was reduced.

Was the dose increased lately? Have you had blood test to check electrolytes and ECG to check your heart?

It can also cause constipation.

Please check with you doctor.

Take care.

I developed really bad edema during DalCon in 2005.

My ankles were bigger than my grandmother's.

Good luck

My dosage hasn't been increased lately.  On 560 mgs XR.  Haven't had any tests.  BP has been normal 100-110/ 60-70.

I've been like this for awhile.  I thought it was effects of steroids and I was just having a hard time getting back to normal.  The skin on my lower legs and ankles feels tight, like it's streched to the limit.  I'm calling Dr. first thing am.

Thanks,
Beth

Called the Dr. & he wants me to ween off the verapamil in the next two weeks.  I'm to call back in a week and let him know how everything is going.  Hopefully the beast stays away.

At 720mg Verapamil I had no swelling/pain in my lower legs and ankles.  Increasing to 960mg caused my lower legs/ankles to swell and become extremely painful.   Dropping back to 720mg resolved the problem.

Leg/ankle swelling and pain is a common side effect.  My Neuro. wasn't very concerned about it but didn't ignore it either.  It's an issue that should be addressed.

360 mgs low enough to keep swelling down, but not high enough to keep the beast away  Embarassed

When I first went on Verapamil my ankles, legs, and wrist swelled-- I think as a side affect to the drug.  After about 1 week of swelling, it subsided and everything was great.  That was a year ago.

Now, my doctor has increased the dosage from two 240 mg. tablets to three, but I haven't noticed any big changes.

Hope this helps.

Take care.
