Ok, most of you folks know that I was chronic for 31 years and then they went away for 14 months or so. And you know that Verap and Lith was my saviour....now that im episodic (they come and go now) and have to stop my meds when the pain stops, im getting nausea for some reason when I get back on the meds. this never happened when I was chronic. My question is: Do any of you folks have a home remedy for this? The last thing I want to do is add another med for this, Ive been taking meds for as long as I can remember and adding another is not on my list. Thanks folks!

peppermint or B6 is good for nausea. Also ginger like the other poster suggested. I can't take med for nausea at all. Sami

Lithium always made me nauseous. Ginger ale is good, and that syrup is Coca Cola syrup, and it works, too. I always found that a couple of dry crackers helped if I didn't drink anything for about 20 minutes before and after.

There are these fabric-type wristbands called Sea-Bands that some people say can help with nausea. They don't work for me at all, but ya never know everyone is different. I couldn't stand wearing them. As stated above, Ginger is worth a try... in pills, ginger ale or tea.

I get it with some of my meds. If it's severe, I swig an OTC children's anti-nausea syrup called Emetrol. It's between the Aspirin and cold medicine in most pharmacies. It works. The cherry flavor tastes better than you'd think. If minor try eating 15 minutes before any meds. If you still get nausea try the things that work best for me are (1) ginger snaps (2) black licorice (the real kind, not anise, and don't eat this more than a few times a week because the same compounds that fix the nausea can be toxic in large amounts), (3) any sort of food that is good for hangovers- think simple carbs like saltine crackers or pasta, as grease-free and bland as possible. Carbonated things like ginger ale seem a bit hit-or-miss with me. Sometimes it helps, othertimes it makes me vomit. There is a baby cereal made of powdered rice that works but I get tired of it very fast. According to a friend who had months of awful morning sickness, sucking on the food slowly when you eat it helps a lot too. Something about muscle contractions. It never seemed to matter much in my experience, but it might help you. Good luck!

Well before I suggest anything I'm going to ask the obvious... have you been seeing more of Chewy lately?! I've been taking cyclizine for the past five months to stop me throwing up and it works really well. It is a prescription drug but I thought I'd mention it as if I miss a dose or try and see if I can manage without it the nausea comes back with a vengeance until I'm wishing I could throw up to stop it. Nausea is miserable so don't suffer it hon. The best OTC I ever used was ginger but once it get's worse its probably best to get something from the doc.

Mike got urpy from the lithium at first too, Jonny. Once it was in his system for awhile, it seemed to go away. He just only ever used Tums or Rolaids to fight it and that seemed to work for him.

I take ˝ dramamine pill with a very cold Ginger Ale and the mix makes the nausea go away at least for 4 hours.

Jonny- Is it just at start up of the meds (few days) or during the whole time you are on the meds? If it is irritation from taking the meds, food will help. If it is a side effect of the meds changing diet might help. -P.

I am sooo glad to see someone from the old days! And even more glad to hear that you have become episodic!!! Amazing!! What I use for most nausea (unless it is a virus) is an acid reducer. Like Zantac. They work well. I used to use Pepto, but I found that most nausea is caused by your stomach producing acid, thinking that what you have ingested is food. Since it isn't food you end up with a stomach full of meds and acid...therefore you get nausea. I also like a spiced tea. Good to see you doing so much better Jonny. Sherry
