To start, I don't think I have these headaches as bad as many of the members here (see my first post here http://www.clusterheadaches.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=knowya;actio n=display;num=1178046357) - so take this for what it's worth... my experience for about a week.
I have found that slathering Thera-Gesic (sort of like Bengay, Icy Hot, etc) on to my head an neck - keeping it away from the eye - helps a lot! It seems to get rid of "shadows" almost instantly - pretty much as soon as the burning sensation starts. If the attack goes on up to a "Kip 3" I will go ahead and take an Imitrex tablet, and the combination seems much better than the Imitrex alone. I think the burning sensation is more of a way to confuse the nerves and pain sensations than a real solution... who knows... anyhow, maybe this will help someone!
