Hi everyone,

I've been getting hit pretty hard lately...moreso than I can ever recall in the past 20 years.  I've been using Imitrex on an almost daily basis.  The relief is most welcome, but I get concerned using it so much.  Is anyone aware of the safety of using Imitrex daily?  Also, what are the opinions on Lithium as an option to break a CH cycle.  I would appreciate any input.  Thanks.

I've been succesfully using lithium as a prevent for many years. I'm male, 47, weigh about 190 and take 1200 mg a day when on cycle. Reduces my imitrex use to maybe a half dozen shots over a 3-4 month cycle. Oxygen is still my first line of abort.

It takes about 2 weeks to get lithium up to the levels needed to block the beast, I do a pred taper during that time. It doesn't seem to abort the cycle but reduces break thru headaches by 80-90 % so for me it's been very effective. Good luck. As to side effects of too much trex I'll wait for someone else to ring in on that I don't know.

I also used lithium as a preventative.  I took 300mg 3x day. (900mg total).  It worked great for me!

I've used Imitrex on a daily basis for very long stretches at a time. So far, it's always helped me and I haven't had any serious side effects.

This post is not recommending that you use anything. I am just stating what I have done. Check with your doctor and make sure he/she knows how much you need and use.  As long as you have a healthy heart ... it should be okay to use Imitrex daily. AGAIN ... CHECK w/ YOUR DOC

Of those that I know of, I think Svenn is the imitrex king.  He has taken 'trex daily, for years.  And some days, I think he takes 4 or 5 in one day.

AND he has had a heart attack!

LOL .. Ok buddy!!!  As I said: of those I know of their consumption!

BUT, you are backing up my idea.  There are those that have taken a LOT of it, for MANY years, without problems.

The comment about the heart attack, was just to show, that even after a heart attack, some people can take it.  They say once you have had a heart condition, you can no longer take triptans.  I know, I have been trying to get someone to give me a prescription, and they won't, due to my heart attacks, yet I HAVE used it after my heart attacks.
