Why does every doc write migrane instead of CH on

Do the rest of you have this happen to you?  I have never seen the words Cluster Headache on my prescriptions.     Always chronic intractable migraine.
My diagnosis is CH.   Is this ringing any bells?
Thanks-- Danny

The lable on my Zomig NS says "Use as needed for cluster headache, limit 2 in 24 hours".

It is up to YOU to educate yourself and then help your doctor plan your treatment. If you just sit down in front of your doctor and say "make me better" you are setting yourself up for a great deal of pain.

Jonny, you made me get up and read my Zimig.  I am still using free samples & the insert states under What is Zomig Nasal Spray? "Zomig nasal spray is a perscription medication used to treat migraine headaces in adults.  Zomig nasal spray is not for other types of headaches."  Under Indications and Usage it states "for the acute migraine headaches"

I do not have a Rx yet, but since I'm down to 2, I need to call & I wonder what the doc will write?  Yes, it really bugs me that ch is called migraine.  I get migraines and ch does not even come close.  I best annology I read on this site " Calling a ch a headache is like calling a tsunami a wave"

Can't take the credit.  I read it on here, don't remember who origanally said it.  I think it may have been on a post about how to describe ch.  It is the best decription I've heard.

Tow completely different HA's, no doubt.  It bothers me more when people say, Oh you get migraines?  Me too.  So people have no clue.  Some doc's write migraine because insurance companies/pharmacists have no clue either.

My current neuro writes for cluster headache.

My previous neuro wrote cluster migraine.  I don't remember what my first neuro wrote.  He was pretty clueless about CH so I wasn't with him for more than a couple months.

I've had docs write it both ways. I'm sure my doc does it so it doesn't confuse others in the health profession. Everyone has heard of migraines but not many know what clusters really are.

To me the worst of this is the fact that our meds are made as migraine meds and the limits on monthly supplies are just barbaric. Like we don't exist almost. My Dr writes as CH.

I hope time, education & maybe a few lawsuits will make this better someday. Keeping us out of the Hospital has to be cheaper.          My 2 cents.

All the more reason that they should make other people aware of it! AAARRRGH

Two possibilities: either your doc is not current on Dx and therapies OR he writes this way to avoid potential conflict/rejection by insurance companies (re. drug coverage). As we have seen here, too many problems trying to get insurance outfits to recognize CH and the differences in therapy between CH and migraine.

My doctor writes "as needed for headache".

She probably knows that many pharmacists would look at a word like clusters, and not know what the hell it was.

She never uses migraine.  Inever had a migraine, or at least I dont think I did.

I t angers me because sometimes Im forced to use some pretty strong pain killers, and when the pharmasists all read "as needed for headache", I know what they think when they give me the"Hmmmm" glance.
Makes me want to jump across the counter.
