I am not yet a cluster headache sufferer. I was, 3 years ago, told that I had just had a cluster headache when my eye and nose started running, oxygrn ind imitrex stopped this.

This has re-occured maybe 3 or 4 times since then but I have never had any pain at all.

Does this sound familiar to any of you, can you have signs like this or do clusters jusy hit you hard one day.

Anyway, my question is this.

Is morphine not an answer. Could you not have morphine when an attack starts?

Secondly, I have seen alot on other sites about the great effectiveness of magic mushrooms but very little said of it on here.

What sthe deal with them?

I'm new and all, but I do have some experience with CH and morphine.  I had laparoscopic surgery a couple weeks ago (while in the midst of a CH cycle).  I awoke from the anesthetic and, although my incisions were in my abdomen, the only real pain I had was my CH.  I told them my head and tummy hurt and immediately they started administering morphine.  It took the discomfort in my abdomen away immediately, but my head was still throbbing.  It did nothing at all to help the headache.  I told them I was still in pain, so they switched to dilaudid.  Again, no abdominal pain, but my head throbbed for another 20 minutes (a total of one hour) until the CH finally went away (as they usually do after an hour for me anyway, even without any medication).  I don't think narcotics dull the pain at all, and I've taken just about all of them to try and relieve the pain...

You need to simply read this site. Not just the last two posts.

Pain killers do not work on CH. Again you need to simply read the website.
Happy reading

If you have no pain, why would you even be thinking about using one of the most powerful pain killers available?

If you're not having any pain, why would you use anything at all?

The pain they inspire

Debonair.

I'm new, but you will find I'm not shy and I have strong opinions, so here's one of them concerning the morphine.  I'll admit, I love narcotics.  I don't regularly take them (never have) but I won't lie and say that the high I get coming out of surgery on morphine or dilaudid isn't awesome.  I used to love when the docs gave me the "good cough syrup" when I have a bout of bronchitis.  When I was prescribed vicodin for my CHs (which doesn't work), I still enjoyed taking them during the day for the shadow pain, and it did put me in a good mood.  My point is this.  Since I've started having these, I know true pain (as most of us on this board do), and right now I don't WANT morphine...I don't WANT dilaudid.  I want this pain to go away.  I want to not fear going to bed at night.  Last night was my first attack-free night in weeks (which seemed like much longer), and today, I'm feeling even more high than how I feel on narcotics.  Becoming addicted to the most powerful painkillers there are doesn't sound appealing to me.  The only thing that gives me a high these days is a good long restful sleep.  I want anything that works to remedy this problem, and since the heavy stuff doesn't, people can keep them, for as far as I'm concerned.

Whoo hoo!  Slept through the night last night!  This is the best high there is...

I hear ya!!!! Had a nice night myself last night. Slept all night except for my 12 year old lab's "potty break" at 3 am. Just gives you such a wonderfully different outlook on the day doesn't it?

I woke up and suddenly started singing the Queen song "It's a Beautiful Day" and for someone who's generally not a morning person, that was something else!  Glad you had a good night, too!
