beta blockers?

My husband just started taking a beta blocker---propratolol or something like that, can't remember the exact name. Anyway, he's been on it for over two weeks and we haven't noticed any change--in fact, he had one of his worst headaches a couple nights ago. Anyone with experience with these have any insights? Does it take a long time for it to build to theraputic levels, or should it be working by now? -Alison

Several drugs of this type have been tried for Cluster without significant success. These articles represent the most current thinking on meds. -------- http://www.headachedrugs.com/pdf/ha2006.pdf Dr. Robbins site. Then explore the entire site by deleting everything following. com/ and then hit enter. ======================================================================== = Here is a link to read and print and take to your doctor. It describes preventive, transitional, abortive and surgical treatments for CH. Written by one of the better headache docs in the U.S. (2002) http://www.brightok.net/~mnjday/chtherapy.pdf

It is an excellent beta blocker and does wonders for high blood pressure. Doctors seem to have a need to guinea pig us with this crap cause someone in med school said it worked. That and the psychotropics. Does nothing for CH ...IMHO It is good thing I have a tough liver though. all the best jb

| That may be so but that doesn't make it an effective med for CH.

Geez Brew..take your pick. It's the same with the MAOI's and the SSRI's. My point is the doctors go through the drugs to try for prevents like there's no end. One after another after another well this didn't work lets try this. Is there a better way? I dont know. 28 years later...its back to 02,coffee and trex. Is that all medical science has to offer, let try this next time? Thats not counting the DHE IV drips, steriods and on and on and on. Inderal may be effective on some level for migraines but CH? IMHO Drugs Once again IMHO, I would rather eat mushrooms. But we cant even consider studies on such a bad fungus. If it works for you do it, whatever it is. all the best jb

I guess when I think of psychotropics, I think of things like cocaine, pot, heroin, MDMA, barbiturates, amphetamines, nicotine, and caffeine, to name a few. While almost all of us know the benefits of caffeine, few would swear by most of the others (though most of us are addicted to nicotine as well). Did you have docs prescribing some of this stuff?

I have been taking a beta blocker for over 25 years for high blood pressure. Doesn't do a damn thing to help my clusters........you must try oxygen.
