Water Treatment

Okay, for the last 5 days my husband has been detoxing from Ultram (pretty much 300 mg/day for the last 2 years). And the only thing he has to knock out the CH is Monster Khaos and imitrex (100mg) for now. We've started the "water x 3" treatment and I was hoping to hear from anyone who has tried this already. Any advice or tips? Thanks

Margi's husband Mike tried this and has had great sucess with it. Margi is an excelant source to talk to about this treatment. If she doesn't come along and post you may want to PM her. I tried it and it didn't work for me. But everybody is different and it may work for you. I have heard some sucess stories over the years. Good luck.

I have found that the 3X water does not help me abort as much as drinking about twice as much water as usual all day long helps reduce # and pain level of my CHs. But, each of us are different so I would try it for a week or so and if no change, then try another option.

Thanks for the imput. He's grumbling as it is. I'm lucky that he's trying this treatment. Kudzu is our next line of defense when we're done with the current one. If it's okay with you, I may be calling upon you sometime for more imput on Kudzu. Take care Michelle

Hi Froggy Along with drinking vast amounts of water it is well worth trying a radical change in diet to try and break a cycle. Steer away from all sugars and starches/carbs and all junk food and drink and try and drink just water and eat just fresh fruit and veg if at all possible for a few weeks. I have had good success with this myself and have been virtually pain free since May 2001 and have broken several bad cycles doing this. I revert to this regime for a few weeks (maybe twice a year) when I feel a CH cycle coming along - that's when I start to get mild almost daily HAs as a precursor to a full blown cycle. Might not work for everyone but it seems to work very well for me. I am 55 and have had CH and migraines since my teens and rarely missed a cycle at least once a year. This regime has changed my life since I discovered something that worked for me. You will see many posts from me on this subject in the archives. John

Update on the water treatment. Day 1 Tony(the husband) didn't really notice too much a difference. He had been using the Monster Khaos and that seems to work (especially on the second serving). Day 2 It seems like the water has kept the hits at a level 5 with them not getting worse (especially full blown - phewww!) Today is day 3. Last night Tony went to bed as usual with a fluctuating 5-7 banger, pounded 2 glasses of water (as his last "awake" dose). The headache was coming on. He woke up this morning after SLEEPING (first time in weeks - 6 hours) with about a 1-2! Highly unlikely for him. He never is able to just sleep it off without taking at least 100mg of imitrex. He pounded his first dose this morning and is feeling good. There's a smile on his face. He's off for a walk but who knows for how long since he'll probably have to pee somewheres along the way As a skeptic of "natural" treatments (only cuz we've tried so many in the past with no luck in the long run) he asked me this morning, "now what do we do?" Too early to tell but we'll see what happens by the end of the week. John, thanks for your post. I'm thrilled the diet has worked for you and you've had such a long holiday. You can't imagine (probably can) the whole food diets I've put him on. The ones where everything pretty much tastes like cardboard - rice cakes mmmm - not!. NO sugar, no wheat.....I made a list of every single food and chemical (compiled for the last 15 years) that supposedly triggers Migraines and Clusters and took it away for 15 days. To our disappointment it didn't work. I for one was floored, I couldn't believe it. Things like altitude and Corn chips or a sudden loud noise trigger him. He's been able to eat chocolate and cheese for 2 days straight (while having a headache) then go 3-4 days without one. It's just really upside down. Hope this helps someone.

P. S. To John, Tony is Chronic. Don't know if that has any relevance to why diet would work or not work for Chronic vs Episodic.
