You didn't mention what dosage you took. Melatonin works quite well for alot of us. Don't give up on it....give it a chance to get in your system. You can vary the dosage too. So, if you take 6mg one night and have a problem...you can go down 3 mg...or up another 3, whichever. Good luck, Jean

Having more vivid dreams is a commonly reported side effect of melatonin. I actually like it. Fatigue, morning grog, difficulty getting up when the alarm goes off - another real possibility with melatonin. Some people adjust and get over these. Do you use time-released or quick release? What dosage?

Glad to see a new post on melatonin. I took it last night for the first time in years. 6 mg. Just looked at the bottle. Does not mention if it's quick release or timed-release. I went to bed 30 minutes later. I slept 2 hours and I've had the worst CH day in weeks. Probably related to sleep deprivation. I will try 9 mg tonight. But I'm not going to keep at this more than a few days if I start going backwards. Stacy...I'd like to know how it's working out for you if you keep up with it this week. I'm also curious to know if any night-shifters take melatonin when they go home in the mornings.

I started taking melatonin because of CHs. It hasn't seemed to help them at all, but I kept on it to help regulate sleep. It did seem to make me very groggy and unpleasant in the morning if I didn't follow the melatonin dosage with a longer than normal period of sleep. Also, with my regular usage of it, I've seem to become resistant to it, and require higher and higher doses, so I've started to take it less and less. With this CH cycle I'm trying to not take it at all, and when it's over I may take it only on rare occasions.

I had some weird stuff happen when I first started taking it. Bed spin, walking like a drunk stuff like that. I didn't think it was helping keep the attacks at bay, but being the cheap s.o.b. that I am I wasn't about to stop taking it and let the rest of the bottle go to waste. After the first week the weird symptoms got better and I was sleeping throughout the night with the beast waking me up. I really do think they work for the night time attacks.

I tried Melatonin at 9mg per day. It started working after about 5 days and I went virtually pain free to the end of my cycle - about three months. Did feel a bit groggy in the mornings but felt that was a small price to pay - also found I could drink alchohol and generally live a normal life. Just shows that what works for some doesn't work for all - but best of luck.
