was watching telly last night when i seen an advert for the above. It was selling its self on the fact that it worked on the hypothalamus. i was wondering, is this the same stuff that some of you yankees take with your melatonin at night to help you get a nights sleep ?? anyone else in the uk seen the advert, its the one where the cgi bloke gets his brain out and shows his hypothalamus as "the little blue bit" lol

My generic bendedryl bottle says that it is Diphenhydramine Hcl 25 mg. It's an antihistamine. Boy, I like to see your commercial. Ours don't sound as interesting. We have Abe Lincoln, a ground hog, and a guy in a scuba suit selling that sleep aide that is supposed to be similar to melatonin. Charlotte

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/495339 Benalyn is the same as Benadryl, the active ingredient here is Diphendydramine which is a first generation antihistamine. Its an 1H- antagonist and has 2 major effects. The first is antihistamine ie reduces allergic reaction, the second is sedation affecting REM sleep and may have an effect on sleep pattern and the circadian clock, it does so by acting on the hypothalamus via the anticholenergic pathways. Some CH are triggered by histamine and sedation is a favourable effect at night for sleep deprived clusterheads so I guess thats how it helps. Painfree wishes to all. Annette
