Hello to all, Im fairly new here. I had my first cycle 5 years ago and thought they were gone forever...Im Back. Well after being a little discouraged and probably a bit depressed I decided to write in on the board. I got a little boost of encouragement and decided to go to the doc. Well I went today to a neuro who didnt really even spend 5 minutes with me. She gave me Axert in pill form. I then explained my usual headaches last 45 minutes and they are gone by the ime it takes effect (the Axert packaging says 30 minutes) She then gave me samples of Imitrex (pill form also). I then inquired about oxygen therapy and she told me only 50% of the people have a positive effect so she wouldnt prescribe it. Well I got my 1pm and my 5 pm headaches and decided not to take the Axert until I got some feedback from people on this website. I know its obvious I need a new neuro but Im looking for input about Axert. So any input from my fellow clusterheads is appreciated. thank you all Hector PS If you know of a good (cluster sensitive) neuro in the Miami area please advise.

I found Axert to be effective in aborting my ch. Problem is it took aprox 30-45 min to kick in. I like imitrex nasal spray because it abort in 6-15 min. almost as fast as the imitrex shot without the poke. It is a tradeoff as far as I can see either you get poked or nasal drainage aftertaste. I drink a can of coke when I use ns it helps. Good luck in finding a better dr that will listen to you.

| ...damn, if the odds were a coin flip that you could find relief with freakin' AIR (and we CHers see more like 70-80% efficacy) ...y'all oughta report yer doctress to the State Medical Board as Obviously Incompetent. (...it's like playin' cards with my brother's KIDS...)

| Damn straight Rich! I hear this about Docs over and over again from the folks here. What is the friggin problem? O2 is as close to a universal, benign, cheap, simple, available treatment there is!! FIND THEE A DIFFERENT DOCTOR! After years of mis (or no) diagnosis I learned of O2 (National Headache Foundation, BTW). Based on my request, each Doc since has more than willingly prescribed it for me. Didn't bother them a bit. I have been eternally grateful. Regards, Jon (who just returned from the O2 shop with a smile on my face after a day of misery. It may work only 60-70% of the time for me, but that is just so much less of the scary, expensive, insurance piddled out abortives needed).
