Gabapentin Question
« on: Oct 2nd, 2006, 12:43pm »

I have a question for this medication.
I just started on it and it seemed to help me faster and better than Verapamil did.
It also seems to act as an antidepressant and makes my mood better.
My question is does the drug continue working or do the headaches start breaking through like with Verapamil?
Thanks,
Kurt

this drug is also called neuronin.  I took it for a few years for epilepsy not ch so I have no experience with it that way except to say the only symptom I had was my hair fell out a little bit.  You may want to scan the archives because I don't remember anyone mentioning that they had used or had results with this drug.
Good luck!

I use it for a simliiar to ch headache every two hours.  The headaches still occur but the neurontin dulls the trigiminal nerve pain.

I also use Indocin & kudzu.

I would not call it an anti depressant in my case.  It did cause some paranoia and emotional distress during parts of hte ramp up to full dosage, and I had to overcome some dizziness.

It just shows how different we all are and how many different ways we will react to drugs. I was on Neurontin for a good while and found it turned me into a walking Zombie without touching the HA.

It is fairly high on my list of least favorite drugs that have been tried for CH! Funny.....you just never know ....which is why you can never stop trying!!!

........Hope it keeps workin for for ya Kurt..............Tim

I had limited success with it as a CH prevent. It kept my hits at lower kip levels, but I had to add more and more as time went on. By the time I was taking 1800 mgs a day, I was pretty much a zombie, too. (Although I felt like I was doing fine at the time, LOL)
I gained 40 lbs during the neurontin years... been off for over a year and I've only lost 10 of them. I'm considering giving up chocolate.  Wink

kurtr,
My fiancee is on it and has been the last two and a half weeks and it's been the best medication to date that we've found!! It's taken away most of his CHs. He'll only get a shadow every now and then.
The only side effect (and this is a crazy one) is that it's increased his libido!!! (I don't know who likes Gabapentin more. .  . him or me!)  Grin

I am currently taking this drug as Neurontin with Depakote, and it works for me with the ChCH.  The man cometh with the ice pick only a few times daily now (which is an improvement).  Plus, the after-pain is of shorter duration and less painful with this combination.

Looking for a neurologist in Colo. Springs who knows about this.  I have a friend IM physician who takes all the "you're my last hope cuz no one else will listen to me" cases, and he might be willing to learn about CH and ChCH.
