Is it possible for Imitrex to break a cycle?

My CH started in October '05 and has gradually gotten more frequent and intense up til last Friday when I was getting hit with about 6-9 Kip 5-8's daily.  As of Friday my longest painfree time was 3.5 hours in about 2 weeks or more.  I'd actually stopped counting.  Anyway, Friday afternoon I'd finally gotten my script of nasal Imitrex.  I dosed myself once Friday evening @ 6:00 PM.  I had one more hit at 8:00 pm that lasted about an hour.  What was odd though is that I didn't have another CH until Saturday night.  I dosed again with trex and relieved the CH.  A couple of hours later I had one more CH, but so far today (it's noon now) I haven't had another HA yet.  Can trex have that much "shelf" life in one's system?  Or, can it really help to begin to break a CH cycle?  Don't get me wrong.  I'm ecstatic so I'm not complaining by any means.  I'm just trying to gain a better understanding of what might be going on here.  Can anyone offer any insight?

It's possible that you're cycle is ending.

I don't think Imitrex will actually end a cycle...however, I've never taken it.   There's plenty other's here who have, and I'm certain they can give better insight than I.

Are you taking any other meds?   Also, how long have you been on the Imitrex?   It appears that you just started using it...by your post.

Wishing you lots of pf time...

It's never shortened or ended a cycle for me so I suspect your cycle is ending on its own. On the other hand with this condition I swear almost anything is possible! Enjoy the break, keep your meds stockpiled.

Man, if this thing is finally ending on its own and the trex is just a coincidence, I'll take it!!!!

So far, I'm still PF today and man am I enjoying every minute of it!

Yes, I only just started using the trex this past Friday.  The only other meds I'm on are Topamax & Amitrityline which haven't helped me in the almost 9 months I've been taking them.

I'm so damn afraid about becoming chronic as I'm rapidly approaching the 1 year mark without having more than a 2 week break from these damn things.

I've never heard of Imitrex breaking anyone's cycle. It has never broken any cycles of mine. ( Maybe even made them worse ).     Undecided

Hope you continue w/ some PF time.

Your cycle is ending.

I've been using trex injections since 1995 and it has never broken my cycle. It works great to stop a CH though. In my opinion it may even lengthen the cycle. Before trex my cycles lasted 4-6 weeks. Since trex I reckon they have been lasting 6-12 weeks. Just a personal observation. This still wouldn't stop me using it though. At least I could get through a cycle with trex and still lead a fairly normal life. Without it I was totally f**c*d

Thanks guys.  Unfortunately, the good times ended promptly at 7:15 CDT this morning.  The Beast paid me a little visit on the drive into work as the sun glared into my left eye and triggered a slight shadow.  The minute I hit the office, I grabbed my trex and dosed.  In about 15 minutes I was perfect.  One hour later, the Beast slammed me with one serious kip 10.  2 hits of Stadol didn't even give me complete relief.  I had to ask a couple of co-workers to drive me home.  The Stadol still hasn't worn off and I'm still feeling the Beast rampaging inside my head.

At least I had a glorious weekend!!
