Typical Oxygen Usage

I’m just curious here about how much oxygen is used by the “typical” clusterhead at peak cycle or you chronics during your worse times. I use between 5000-6000 liters per week. I’m fairly certain that I waste probably waste a lot of O2 via a conventional non-rebreather mask @15 Liters per minute and have ordered the clustermask from Ben. Another question for the ClusterMask people---Do you find a reduction in the amount of O2 used………? Thanks, John E tank 680 Liters F tank 1,698 Liters M tank 3,538 Liters 40 CF welding oxygen tank 1,132.7 Liters 60 CF welding tank 1,699 Liters

I customized an old paramedic demand regualtor so it only dispenses oxygen when I inhale. A ten minute hard draw on an E-Tank uses about 3 hundred pounds...I suck at converting pounds to litres.... but that gives me about 7 head aches per E-Tank! Guiseppi

Hey, my GP's nurse warned me not to use welder's O2. She said that while the O2 is the same as you'd get from a medical supply store, the tank is not. Welder's tanks are not medically regulated and can have rust on the inside of them. Inhaling too much rust into your lungs over a period of time can and will kill you. She actually had a patient about 16 years ago who'd tried to save money by using welder's O2 and died because of the amount of rust in the welder's tank. Be very, very careful!

| Welding tanks are checked because they work with rust in them.....stop freaking people out with your GP's bullshit....whens the last time your GP welded?

John, I use a Clustermasx...and definitely I use less 02. The larger bag makes a big difference. Once the bag is full, you can actually reduce the regulator to a lower setting. Breathe normally...this is something Ben taught me in Wisconsin. This allows the bag to stay inflated, thus saving 02. Good to see you, again. Jean

Thanks everybody I have little or no choice as far as welder's oxygen for the insurance company has thrown me under the train on this issue. I probably have about $2,000-3,000 worth of O2 that they didn't pay for due to a technicality. I'll have to take my chances--if any. John

Does everyone use this just when an attack occurs, or is anyone on it overnight? I have portable tanks for work and an oxygen concentrator machine for at night. I have actually slept more by sleeping with this.

| I think most, if not all of us use it when the attack occurs, not continuously. I'm curious, do you use the concentrator for another reason other than CH?, or do you use it as a prophylaxis for the headaches? Sorry to be nosey, but just wondering........ Thanks

I have got the workshop at the hospital to connect two Weinmann Oxymat3 machines together. each making 5liters of O2, conected in parallell to a total of 10liter. I have 20meters of hose to move around the house, and then have an unlimited supply of O2 and are in no need of refilling tanks. They make some noise, and are a "bulky" sollution but, works very well as long as I'm at home, the power doesn't fail, and I have to wait 1minute after switching on, before they stabilize. Trond

I'm in line with Guiseppi's usage of about 7 headaches per E tank. I only use E tanks, one's always hooked up and the other is either waiting full or I'm trading for a full one at supplier. Scott

| Hey G, Do you have the details about how you did this or where you got the parts. It's the only approach that makes sense to me. I posted a question about this several months back and got no responses. I was actually wondering how to go about modifying a scuba type demand reg to O2 useage. Right now, I only get about four HAs per E-tank, and I am sure half of that is waste.

| Hi Richard, I have 2 demand rigs – 1. is a duel flow > free flow and demand, from SOS (speciality oxygen services) ( I showed this 1 at milcon) > http://tinyurl.com/hrv6u 2. is from DAN (divers alert network) similar to what’s shown here.http://tinyurl.com/qew7w I’m a bit confused > why buy divers rigs and convert them, when you can already buy them specifically made for O2 ? shocked

| Hi Mike. Typical feedback from clustermasx users – Aborts attacks much quicker (saving O2) using a lower flow rate (saving O2) and no waste (saving O2) Hope this helps shocked

I HAVE BEEN WARNED BY A Dr. friend of mine ( He is a natural medicine Dr. and prescribed me my 02) not to use 02 for too long (per treatment) and under any circumstances use overnight. In fact he said to remove the straps from the mask and hold it with my hand so as not to fall asleep and keep the mask on. Overdosing is possible and could be fatal. I have done some research and believe this to be true. HOWEVER having said that I used oxygen every night prior to going to sleep 2ml for 15 minutes. This is before I got my nightly CH and within two weeks I was cluster free and have been for over a year. I did just started I cycle and have had a few episodes so again I started on 02 prior to my episode (preventative) and did not get one last night. Keep inhaling

The clustermasx cut my O2 usage greatly, and dropped my abort time from 10 min to 5. I would recommend it over standard non-rebreather mask. Paul

Clustermasx can be ordered HERE. If you're lucky and they're in stock. They're imported from England, you know. Custom made by a little gnome-like CHead, off working all on his own, just so you can have a better day of it. A CMasx is still a NRB mask........but it removes a lot of the end user problems. A PayPal Friendly Vendor, too. Hap

Clustermasx=less O2 used. Plus longer hose=more space to "roam". My last neuro at the VA recognized it which is very cool-he actually knew his stuff. About welding tanks-some of my best friends have one at their homes (these suckers aren't exactly portable-the tanks that is, not the friends) If you are concerned about rust-buy a new one. and the difference between shaman and shinola is 60 words in my dictionary (I need to get a life, as I just counted the words in my dictionary -not all of them just the ones...well jeez you know) but ya don't want to fall asleep inhaling pure O2 at 15 ml cause ya might wake up in a "far better (or worse) place. I think I would go through 1 M60 tank every 2 to 2.5 days. After I got my Clustermasx it'd be 1 tank every 4-6 days because I was aborting them 80-90% faster.
