Solu Medrol is a steroid that I use often but I don't hear much of others using it. Just kind of wondering am I the only one using this ? Surely I can't be. It always works to bring me some relief when I really need it. I know that steroids shouldn't be used very often (at least not as much as I do) ... but the relief it brings, the peace of mind ... is priceless. BTW, my usual dose is 250mg IV and you can probably only get it @ the hospitals. I've been using it alot (too much really ... but I don't regret it and I don't suffer many side effects from it @ this dose) PF WIshes UNsolved

"...can only get at at the hospital" is the key: Cost Since the pill form works well and is a relatively inexpensive med, this factor will drive the doc's decision on what to use.

Unsolved, if the steroid that you are using-you seem to imply that you are overusing it-is similar to the steroids that weight lifters and athletes use-do be careful because they can cause all sorts of nasty side effects, including death. If you are getting them legally from your doctor, I recommend that you cut your use to the prescribed dose; if you find that you cannot do that, discuss your situation with your doctor. It is better to have CH pain than to be dead. Please be careful!

Used it 2 yrs ago, started at 500 mg/day (500-500-250-250-125-125 mg/day than 64-64-32 ....mg/day in pills). SoluMedrol is stronger than clusters and stronger than me. This mthrfckr killed the beast in a day (as well as killed my stomach in a week

Every dose I get is a prescribed dose. I have only been getting IV doses of usually 250mg @ the ER. I know the dangers & risks involved and the consequences of not using it too. Gotta do what I gotta do UNsolved

Hi Unsolved, That is some kick ass stuff. During my previous killer cycle last September the nuero gave me an IV right in the hospital clinic where she practices. Don't know the amount (typing this at work, shhhh) but it stopped the cycle that very same day. Yee haw!!! One one-week dose pack and 480 mg/dy verapamil later and I was pain free til Aug 1. One caveat, it caused some nasty side effects (light headed, dizzy, out of sorts, etc that caused me to miss 2 days of work (and not even CH does that). New cycle now and the verapamil is not working. I stare at the solu dose pack I have in closet and waver every day whether to start or not. Hesitating because of other health issues that make it risky and the previous mentioned side effects. So, ah well, CH has got me on the razors edge (again). My best wishes to you in your battle. Jon

Thanks Jon ! I hate doing the Medrol dose paks but I do sometimes. I'd rather go straight for the IV infusions. It seems that I have less side effects with the infusions vs the dose paks. Really, I have no side effects except for hunger & a lil weight gain ( but I lose the weight right away ... until the next dose ) UNsolved

| Yup when I land in the ER (actually first time in a while I was in the ER last week) I always get the same "cocktail" now Solumedrol IV Phenergan and Diluadid. Then after I am SOMETIMES at a finally can sleep point I go home sleep a few hours and start a 10 day taper of prednisone. This method is hit or miss for me, I'd say 75% of the time it gives me a few week break. I'm halfway through my taper (after the ER visit) and I'm not seeing any change other than the usual horrible mood swings and bloating that I get from the steroids. But not the much hoped for break this time. I'm ready for a new preventative, I have a new doc appt on Weds and fingers crossed I find SOMETHING for a prevent that works (seems I've tried it all) But enough about me.......... Just be careful of all those horrible long term side affects that I hear steroids does to our bodies, I myself have depended on them too much so I'm being hypocritical here but ah well just babbling on now. Good luck and I hope you get a break!
