methadone/fentanyl duragesic patch comparision

I'm running out of options and at this point am considering pain management or surgery... I'm hoping those who have taken methadone and/or fentanyl pain patches can tell me a little more about them. How did you feel, what were the side effects, etc? Please, no lectures from those who have never tried them. Painkillers do work for me, they are the only thing that consistently does. They are the only thing that keeps the pain tolerable enough for me to not be suicidal, and the last thing I want here is to start another narcotic debate. I just want info from those who have tried them. Thanks for your help.

For newbies... these are end of the line options, when you have tried everything and nothing helps and you are chronic and have CH so severely that you are not functional- not able to work, or to do daily tasks, etc. These options are addictive and have bad side effects and, in some cases, are dangerous. They are a last resort only, and the majority of people with CH do not respond well to narcotic pain killers. A small percentage do. I am one of those. The last thing I want to do is encourage people to try this who haven't tried everything else first. You can read about it here: http://www.headachedrugs.com/archives/la_opioids_prevent.html

I have a HUGE tolerance to narcotics, so I'm not sure how accurate this info may be for you. I tried Methadone and it did NOTHING at all. Nadda. I did not try the patches, but I did try Actiq (200 & 600mg doses) and ended up itchy and allergic to it, with no help there either. That's all I have to add. Goodluck UNsolved

Nothin like a big shot of demerol sometimes either. Nice newbie disclaimer. My Aunt has been using the transdermal patch for sometime. Phenegren helps with the nausua. They have to move the patch site around to avoid skin irritation, seems to work for her and she is in bad pain as well. Pain sucks and thats all. jb
