I am currently going through my cycle and last night I had one, took Maxalt and was completely gone within 30 minutes. This morning, I felt one coming on and took Maxalt 10mg and it was gone within 15 minutes. I am going to doctor tomorrow and asking for A LOT more of that Maxalt 10mg stuff!!!!!!!! It is a miracle drug!!!!!

Wow how do you put up with em for 30 mins! I had a maxault the other day & it took 30 mins to work.... too long for me, no better than the sumatriptan tablets. Straight back to the Imigran jabs, pain gone within 5 mins.

Also try slamming a can of red bull at the 1st sign of a hit. Everything works better at the 1st sign. Everyone's standards of relief is different. Good luck getting enough meds. Charlotte

I take Maxalt at the first sign, then I start huffing O2. The O2 kills it (usually) within 10 minutes, and the Maxalt ensures it won't be back for at least another 4-6 hours (and ensures I'll sleep for awhile).

Hey SI, Are you taking the Maxalt tablets or the MLT form? The MLT form is the one you put under the tongue and it dissolves and is absorbed into the bloodstream more quickly than the tablet which has to be digested first then absorbed into the bloodstream. The MLT is faster acting. I've been on both forms for my migraines and prefered the MLT. You just have to keep it out of the heat or it will melt. Just thought I'd check to make sure you're getting the fastest acting form possible if that drug is working for you, which I'm very happy that it is. Good luck! And, PFDAN's!!

Maxalt melts - I still remember the last headache I got when they didn't work. Funny because it's the one I'd most like to forget. You know, the sort of pain that makes you wonder about CH not being life threatening being a double edged sword. Then again without that hit I probably wouldn't have taken the alternative route - and I guess you always do remember your last hit especially if it was the worst. Since then O2 has snaffled out what few hits I got in cycle with 'alternatives' and it doesn't have quite the overhead on the body that repeated use/abuse of triptans has. Fair play if they do work for you - even better if they continue to. Each to their own.

| Actually, I believe the MLT version was created more for convenience than anything else (no water needed). The drug is the same in both, and it is absorbed in the gut, not through mucous membranes (otherwise you could simply chew the tablet). The reason the MLT works a little faster (5 min. or so) is that it doesn't have to break down in the stomach first like a pill does. Also, I have been instructed to let it melt ON the tongue, not under. It will all get to the stomach faster that way. Just passing along what I've been told by my neurologist.

At least he had absolutely no problem with referring me to a neuro and was completely honest and told me that he really had no idea what was wrong with me. He did say he thought it could be CH, but he was not well-versed enough to diagnose it nor treat it and that I needed better medical care for that particular disorder. The guy really is a good doc. He knows his limits and is not ashamed to admit it to his patients and refer them to specialists when necessary. The other great thing about him is that now that he's got a patient with CH, he'll start studying up about the disorder and doing research so that he can do any follow up for me since we do live in a rural area and my neuro is at least an hour away and getting an appointment with him is like pulling teeth. So, I can rest assured my GP will be learning as much as he can about CH so he can fill the gap if needed between neuro visits for me. He really cares that much!
