Does anyone know if caffeine causes rebounds like pain meds or Trex? My Dad's friend is a doc and although he doesnt know much about clusters, he did say caffeine and some meds can cause rebounds. I hadn't heard this before, but I do get caffeine withdrawl headaches that trigger clusters. Thanks B$

B$, I've not heard this before about the coffee. I know some of the meds will cause rebounds. Coffee and hot tea is what I use to get rid of a shadow. This is back to how not everything works for everyone I will get a headache (not CH) if I don't have my morning coffee....but I've never had a rebound from the caffeine. That's interesting though...that a doc said this. I wonder if he knows that coffee/caffeine is a vasoconstrictor? During a CH, the blood vessels expand......caffeine makes them shrink. Jean

Well, so far, my trouble with caffeine (in Red Bull/tabs) has been that it keeps me up. I think that in future it can mean that I don't get enough of sleep and that could trigger ch. But I must admit: I will rather stay up because of caffeine than hits! Sanna

This is so funny to me: for years I was addicted to diet soda. The water at my college was awful, but diet soda was free on the meal plan; filtered or bottled water was not. I drank it practically by the gallon for years, and could not stop because of the "awful" headaches I would get when I tried. One KIP-10 and suddenly a caffeine withdrawal headache became nothing. Certainly watch and make sure that caffeine isn't a trigger for you, but my bet is that the worst headache this doctor has ever experienced is a caffeine withdrawal headache, and that is what he imagines CH to be like. You may want to try withdrawing from caffeine altogether and then testing yourself with it. I did. It makes no difference in terms of number or intensity of hits for me, and the caffeine helps pain medicine work faster and sometimes delays a hit, so I keep it. Your results may vary. (Modified for typos).

| Glad you prefaced things with that....caffeine is one of my major ways of managing clusters without prescription meds. If I ever wanted to get off of caffeine completely, and I have done that a couple of times in the past, I sure as shootin wouldn't ever consider doing it during a CH episode. Not only does it not give me rebounds, but helps keep the beast away.

I think so. Have to be careful ,the caffeine is a double edged sword. When one exceeds intake levels of coffee comparable to a small army it will become a trigger. Have to save it for the right times. A nice relief from the trex. I have aborted more CH with caffeine that any other abort, although 02 is quickly catching up. jb
