Hi All, I'm a clusterhead of 25 years (episodic 6 monthly- 1981 to 1985, annual - 1986 to 1997 then bouts in 2000, 2003 and this year) with no success with any preventative treatments. Bouts have ranged from 3 weeks to 16 weeks duration. Successful abortives used - DHE injections @ 0.5mg 100% success within 7 to 15 minutes (kip 5 to 10), Sumatriptan injections and Imigran nasal - 100% success within 10 minutes, oxygen (8l/s to 15l/s) 60% success rate within 15 min., methoxyflurane - 80% success within 5 minutes, as well as narcotics such as oxycodone and pentazocine tablets when it all got too much as well as pethidine/morphine during hospital and doctor home visits. At week 8 of the current bout my neurologist suggested Lyrica(www.pfizer.com/pfizer/download/ppi_lyrica.pdf) starting at 150 mg/day increasing to 300mg/day. At that stage the headaches continued at 1/day (kip 4 to 7). After a week at 300mg/day we increased to 600mg/day - within 12 hours no more headaches. So far no pain for 7 days. cheers, Ian
