Enter the Dragon

I'm a chronic of some five years standing (and pacing and wailing etc) and I've been looking into tropical fruit. Most of them don't do anything and some seem to make matters worse - citrus fruit and durian for example. I find however a combination of mangosteen, star fruit and the remarkable dragon fruit to be beneficial. The right dose, for me at least, seems to be two mangosteens, half a star fruit and a 2cm slice of the dragon (looks like frog's spawn). It seems to work better as fruit rather than juice and it has cut my FID index in half - that's frequency, intensity and duration. I really hope it works for you too. Best Wishes

I'm glad that you've found something which helps. But, personally, I'm gonna need more info: how often you eat that fruit combo? When you get hit? Every morning/evening? Best wishes, Sanna

I've often wondered that there are some food triggers (just a few CH sufferers seem to have them) and if there are some foods that could stop the HAs in their tracks... Reading your tropical fruit entry made me ask the question (aloud this time) again. Glad you are having success. Michael aka mr.c

I would expect durian fruit to trigger. Anything that tastes like kerosene and fermented socks is probably bad news for people with clusters. A few people have suggested that mangosteen helped them. I'm not familiar with dragon fruit. Looks pretty unique on the wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_fruit

| But only when in cycle. Under the kerosene and fermented sock notes, it's really quite delicious!

Thanks to all for the responses. Sanna, I take the dose every evening and it doesn't help at the time of a hit but juiced up it can see off a shadow. Mr C, anything containing soya is a trigger for me so maybe I'm on the food trigger/food untrigger list. Floridian, you're right about durian (the gorilla's armpit of the fruit world) but you know....in the interests of science....and fortunately it was the wrong stuff! vig, in terms of conventional meds, I did verap and imitrex for a long while and then got caught up in some seriously nasty rebounds. I try to do as little as possible now and have developed this wacko neck pressing/breath holding technique that can often abort them. If that fails, then faintheart reaches for a snort of cafergot. Aspirin and magnesium have been useful but not B vitamins. On 'alternatives', I've tried mushrooms a few times without any success and ditto LSA (morning glory seeds). Melatonin makes me worse and while Red Bull will abort, the creature just comes strolling back about an hour later in a meaner mood. So, all in all, I'm the usual old muddle I suppose. Anyway, good luck again if anyone tries the combo. I hope it turns out to be another weapon in your armory in dealing with this cruel, cruel thing. Best Wishes Mr M
