Accupuncture???
« on: Jul 27th, 2006, 11:05am »

I was talking to my friend today and she asked me if I had thought about going to get accupuncture treatment.  The person she sees for accupuncture was saying that our organs work at different times during the day and that the headaches are due to an organ not working properly.  I myself do not even go to a chiropractor let alone try accupuncture.  Just wanted to let you know what was told to me.  Take it for what it's worth. Huh

I had an allergic reaction to the Verapamil I was on...now on prednesone to take the hives away. Went to GNC to find the taurine tabs and other remedies that you all have talked about on this amazing website.

Have a good day...pain free day, hopefully.

I'm sure a lot of people here have gotten suggestions from a friend or relative about causes and cures regarding clusters.  It's good to come here and bounce them first before undertaking treatments.
An acupuncturist probably wouldn't turn down your request for treatment by their methods; basically, if it does not work for you in six or eight sessions, it won't work.  That is way too long during a cycle to find out why it doesn't receive recommendation from those who have or treat clusters.
This affliction is far too painful and time in life too valuable to casually suggest treatments that will not benefit you possibly in some way, as some who are unfamiliar with clusters may do with friendly intentions but down a wrong road where you pay a costly and painful price.

Well, Accupuncture works for me, and has for the past 9 years.

When I start shadowing for the couple of week prior to starting a cycle, if I go in and have two treatments, I will never get an actual HA.  I will have the shadowing for another week or so, then it will stop and the cycle is over.  Before Accupuncture, my cycles lasted 8 weeks almost to the day, so I know that it is not just that I have short cycles.

Now, occasionally I will have a very short shadowing period, maybe only two days or so, then the cycle starts before I can get in to have the treatment.  If this is the case, I still go, three or four times, for the treatment, I still have the HAs, but only for no more than a week or two.  Then I will start shadowing again for a week or so, then the cycle ends.  Still much shorter than the 8 weeks before I ever found the accupuncture.

Recently, I had the above expreience.  It has been three weeks today since I have my first shadow.  I started getting HAs the following day (Sat), and started the Accup on the following Mon.  I had exactly 1 week of HA, and have not had one since.  I have, however, had two weeks of very mild HAs - maybe 3s or so, but none requiring so much as a single med.  I just try to tough them out with ice to avoid the meds...

I will say, the the Accupuncturists makes all the difference.  The first one I tried helped me like my current one.  I moved in the interim, and the two I tried in the middle did not help a single bit.  I knew it wouold work if I just found the right person, and the 3rd try here in Houston I found the guy.

If you or anyone has more questions, wants specifics, just let me know.  I was skeptical at first myself, but I was willing to try anything and everything until I found something that would help.  Not mask, but help.  I am lucky, and just pray that this will work for any and all other sufferers as well.  What do you have to lose besides a few bucks and a few minutes of your day?

Just like the Kudzu, Melationin, Taurine, 02, etc, what works for some will not work for others.  You just have to try until you find your golden egg.

Maybe someone can help me out here.  I've read about "shadows" and aside from the Mills Brothers song, I have not been able to find anything reliable about them.  I either have CH pain or I don't; when it hits, it hits, sometimes really bad and sometimes not.  The only warning that I get is that I feel the pain coming on and then it hits.  None of my neurologists-and they are good ones with worldwide reputations-tell me that these "shadows" don't exist, unless you mean the lingering, relatively minor pain that hangs around for awhile after a major attack is over.  If anyone knows of a scientific article, in a professional medical publication, not from clusterbusters, that confirms the existence of "shadows", please send the reference to me.  I'd really like to understand about this phenomena, but I need more than anecdotal stories.  I am not saying that people who say that they get "shadows" are not being truthful, but it could be that what they are experiencing is not related to CH.  Thanks.

Hmm.. lets see. Sufferers the world over report shadows, All of us mention them to our doctors as being either an echo of CH or possibly a  low level hit which we can cope with but CHTom says they don't exist. CHTom knows more than the rest of clusterville put together.

Thanks for the info.  Yes, A bit skeptical but only because it is unknown to me.  If I cannot find something to control the pain then I might try it.  You are certainly correct in saying that different things work for different people. Thanks for your post.  How do you know if an accupuncturist is good?  What should you ask?

I've had about a dozen treatments recently, I like the relaxation and the process. However, it did not take my head pain away. On one occasion, I got slammed during the treatment, it was a kip10, needed help to walk.
That being said, I'm not sorry I tried it. Different strokes for different folks. It has been known to work for some. Right now I'm into kudzo and too soon to know if that will take them totally away, keep your fingers crossed for me. PF everybody.  S
