CoQ 10

Hi!

This is my first post but have been reading for awhile. I have suffered from CHs since I was 14 and am now 44. 30 years! Is that a record? I had a seven year remission but started getting them again in December of 2003 after I had major surgery. I have had at least one episode for the last three years. This year has been the worst and nothing seems to be working to break the cycle. I've been in this cycle for 2 1/2 months. I've tried the prednisone which has always worked in the past and am now on a prednisone taper with Verapmil (240 mg). I am also using Relpax as an abortive.

I went to the drs. today and was told to try CO-Q-10 - 150 mg twice a day. I was told that it has been successful in stopping migranes. Is there anyone out there who has tried CO-Q 10 and had success?

CO-Q-10 in a dietary supplment and is expensive. Any help would be appreciated.

I've seen one medical report along these lines but no confirming studies. However, at the dosing used this would turn into a fairly expensive treatment compared to other meds with a proven track record. Have not seen any reports of application to cluster.

Here is a link to read and print and take to your doctor.  It describes preventive, transitional, abortive and surgical treatments for CH. Written by one of the better headache docs in the U.S.  (2002)

Yes, it seems to help migraneurs, and -might- help clusterheads.. Magnesium, B-vitamins, Melatonin, and Taurine are stronger candidates, and less expensive. Co-Q is cheaper at a wharehouse club (Costco,BJs, Sams) or if you shop around and get it online - local vitamin shops often put a 100% mark-up on it, and the raw material is not cheap to start with.

Be careful mixing taurine with verapmil - they work in similar ways, and too much is not good.

Smiley Thanks for the info. I will make sure that I show this to my doc.

I want to say that this website and message board has been very helpful and I'm glad it's here to help and support all of us clusterheads. I've used a lot of the information that I have found out here to talk to my doctor about to determine a course of treatment.

Thanks to you all!
