Prednisone Taper

Quick question on the Pred Taper - what does your doc prescribe?  Length of time is usually 2 weeks?  Is there a standard dosage  over the length of the taper?  Anyone willing to check the scrip/packet to share dosage amounts for the first week of the taper?

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm 46, male, weigh 190. I start at 80 mg prednisone for 2 days, then drop 10 mg a day. I start lithium at 600mg a day working up to 1200 mg a day. By the end of the pred taper the lithium is in place, (hopefully!). Good luck.

My doc put me on 60mg for 1 week, 40 for 1 week and 20 for 1 week. I just took my last 40mg dose. Start on 20 tomorrow. No ch since day 2 of the taper!
Have gained nearly 10 pounds and I'm anxious most of the time. Looking forward to being off this stuff soon! Glad to be pain free but hate the side effects.

My taper starts at 60mg then down 5mg every three days.  It also works for me however, due to major anxiety, depression, and problems with my joints for months folowing, I will be looking at an alternative approach for next season.

Good luck my friend.

My old Neuro went strong.  140 mg first day and down 20mg everyday until done.  This new guy went 80mg for 4 days, 60 mg for 7 days, 40 for 4 days, 20 for 4 days then 10 for 4 days.  I have to tell you, this past time, it did not work.  Only 4 pf days in the beginning and then right back where I started from.

Sorry - should have asked this the first time around.

If you're pf with the Taper (during the Taper) - when you say this, do you mean no shadows either?

Thanks again for all the input,

24 hours after I start the prednisone I'm completely pain free. When I absolutely can't have a headache, wife wants to go on a cruise or something like that, I beg the doc to put me on 30 mg a day of prednisone. It guarantees I won't get so much as a shadow.

Of course the down side is all of the side affects of prednisone, another trade off we make. Good luck.

Mine taper starts @ x3 20mg tabs per day (60mg) for three days, x2 20mg tabs for three days (40mg), x1 20mg tabs for 3 days (20mg), then 1/2 a tab everyday till bottle is empty (another 5 days).

What a harsh drug this is. When I take it my body aches, I can't sleep (bad insomnia), and I get really depressed and mean!
Prednisone is something that shouldn't be taken for long periods of time. There are many side effects associated with long term use of this steroid...be careful when taking!
