Ok - I hate anesthesia!

And I probably can't spell it either! Had to have an emergency D and C thursday night - told EVERYONE who got close to me or my chart that I was in a cluster cycle and would probably have a whopper of a headache after getting knocked out (according to all I've read here) and told them I was using a non-rebreather mask with 100% oxygen set at such and such to knock it down. I woke up in recovery WITH the mask on and an ice pack on my face. Great nurses! They must have asked me at some point if I had a headache before I was full awake and they fixed me up. However it was still about 6-7 so I used the imitrex nasal which knocked it out completely. Luckily I had a chance to meet with a lactation specialist and she went over all the meds with me - all of which including the imitrex are FINE while nursing my little man(whew!!) HOWEVER - since thursday I've been getting hit constantly! All night long, every time I fall asleep I wake up with a 4-5-6, middle of the afternoon when I used to be clear I've been getting shadows and more 4-5's. It's NOT fun and the only thing I can think of that I've done differently was from the hospital stay. I've only used the nasal sprays once during that time so I don't think it's a rebound kind of thing. Just venting because it's been a LONG week/weekend - thanks for listening.

That bites! Can I ask what meds you are on? My husband and I are trying to have a baby and I know that this time next year I will probably be in cycle, but I really want to breast feed. What meds are safe to take while nursing? BTW, how old is your son?

I've got an almost 3 year old and a 1 month old. I'm not on any meds currently - just trying to get through this cycle with oxygen and a little caffeine. When I was in the hospital last week they had me on pitocin, methergine, and an antibiotic that I can't remember the name of right now. Fortunately - I didn't have an issue with clusters when I was pregnant. Unfortunately they started up about 48 hours after he was born. According to the La Leche person at the hospital, those meds, and the ones I usually use during a cycle (verapamil, prednisone and imitrex nasal) are all ok to use while nursing but my dr and I are trying to avoid them as much as possible because even thought "they say" they are fine you never know for sure. Hopefully I can get through another few weeks without the meds but the pain levels seem to be ramping up lately. I'm hoping also that that means it's getting worse before it gets better and soon the cycle will be over. Both my dr's seem to think this week is a bad one because my iron levels are so low. Good luck with everything! Here's a site I found while trying to research meds online.... http://headaches.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=headac hes&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fneonatal.ttuhsc.edu%2Flact Frizzle

Oh Crap!!!!! I am having my prostae removed on 7/26. I've been PF for about 6 months. I hope that this doesn't kick them off again. I guess I should load up on the trex and O2.

Where do I take this pain of mine I run but it stays right my side So tear me open, pour me out There's things inside that scream and shout And the pain still hates me So hold me, until it sleeps

I hope you'll be PF afterwards too Jim. Like I said, I told everyone who came near me what "might" happen so that if I woke in recovery screaming IMITREX!!!!!! (like I read that someone on here did) they would know what that meant. And my nurses and the staff there were wonderful! Best of luck to you!

Thanks again for the heads up!!!! I will let everyone there know what is going on. It's not bad enough that we have to deal with what we deal with, but to throw prostate cancer into the mix just plane sucks. Oh well, at least I'll get some good drugs.

Ask your doc about melatonin. It will help you with the night time hits, and it's natural. 9 mg 30 mins before bedtime does the trick for me, but ask your doc if it's OK for breastmilk. When I had back surgery, I think it was the Vicadin that set off my cycle. Could have been the anesthesia, though, but others here have had vicodin set of a cycle. PF wishes.
