Methylergonovine maleate

Methergine, a blood-vessel constrictor, is given to prevent or control excessive bleeding following childbirth. It works by causing the uterine muscles to contract, thereby reducing the mother's blood loss.

Methergine comes in tablet and injectable forms.

ANDBelieve it, or not ... after a terrible flare up cycle for me ... first 4 a day, then a day with 10 attacks ... Doc Kaniecki (Pittsburgh, PA) scripted me Methergine on a Sunday morning. My normal preventative meds are Neurontin and Verapamil and when the Bastard paid a visit, I used about 2mg Imitrex injection. Well, I ended up using way too much Imitrex ... The terrifying part was that once on the Methergine, you can't mix the Imitrex with it. So ... a scary move ... but it worked. I've been taking 4 - 5 .2mg tabs of Methergine - no attacks for 14 days. A little bit of a shadow hanging there, but the O2 seems to calm it. I would imagine I'll be taken off of it soon, but it's worth a try.

Good luck to all.

Mike
