Okay, I'm not sure what has happened. I've had in a PICC line for awhile now and all of a sudden I can't flush it at all. WTH?? I've never had a problem before. I had to call the hospital and get the visiting nurses to come over. They're on their way now. I hope they don't have to pull it out. I'd like to keep it in until at least Friday. ( Then we're going to decide if I need a PORT or not ) What could've happened? Any ideas ? UNsolved

Thanks for all your responses ( just kiddin' ) After a couple of hours of worrying about it and the possible outcome ( going to the ER, pullin' it, maybe a blood clot, ... etc ) The nurse finally showed up and took it apart and fixed it SHEEWW ... I'm so relieved !! It was just kinked right where it comes out of my arm ( where I couldn't see it ). Thank you nursey lady !! Gotta love them nurses UNsolved

What have you been flushing it with, and how often unsolved?, normal saline or do you use an anticoagulant like heparin? I know in the hospital we flush them with heparin or another anticoag daily, at home it's once weekly. If you get the chance, go with a mediport, they're less obtrusive and better if you need CV access.

Thanks everyone. I was a little nervous about it when I posted. So glad that I don't have to go in the hospital (again) and have more surgeries and stuff done. I've spent enough time in the hospitals for awhile!! I flush daily and sometimes twice daily with normal saline (today with heparin). Thanks for the advice , I'll check out a mediport. UNsolved

Wasn't going to tell you about my clots...in case you don't remember... The last time around, by the time we went to take it out, it definitely wasn't flushing as well.... They are great things - but can be buggers, too!
