Imitrex every night ok?

I have been on Verapamil for 10 days (360 mg/day) and still find myself waking every night and needing Imitrex, which thankfully is working great. I assume it isn't good to use Imitrex daily, at least for a long time. Should I give the Verapamil more time or go back to the Dr. for advice on another preventative approach? I am not sure whether I am expecting too much too soon. Thanks in advance for your advice.

| Full effects can possibly take two weeks when first ramping up. At that point I'd discuss with doc exactly what is going on if this continues, he may make adjustments. Perhaps it's helping but not optimally yet. 480mg is ok for me usually. Quote:I assume it isn't good to use Imitrex daily, at least for a long time. |
| I've survived on it daily, but everyone is different. The usual precautions mention limiting to twice daily or not within a couple hours of previous dose. I've adhered to only the latter without exception. Check with doc. If it worries you, bring up O2 to your doc also.

Need more time and, possibly, a higher dose of Verap. But, in the mean time, using Imitrex should not be a problem.

My personal opinion is to go get Oxygen. Since I found O2, I rarely take trex to abort. O2 is safe, cheap and you can use as much as you need.

I'm with Bob on this one. It usually takes 10 days to 2 weeks at 480mg/day before I'm reduced to shadows only. Meantime Trex is a daily need. I look like a pincushion at the end of those 2 weeks, but never had a problem using it daily if needed. Kris

I needed 960 mg and it still didn't help me. But it helps most others at this level. I use imitrex daily for years. So far so good.

I agree with the others that you need to give the Verapamil more time and possibly increase the dose. I've used Imitrex injections multiple times daily for years, no problems (and glad it still works). UNsolved

Sounds like good advice so far. I would say the same: Might wanna up the verap and give it more time, and the trex daily would probably be ok for a temporary time until the verap kicked in. You got O2? BMonee
