... how often do you use them to abort attacks?
Do they work to abort all kinds of hits (meaning all the levels on kip scale)?
And all the time?

Mountain Dew energy drink is not available here, but has someone tried the regular Mountain Dew with success?

I'm just so excited after RB worked today.... Wink

I'm not using it anymore, Sanna. My dr mentioned that too much can hurt my BP and heart. When I was using Red Bull, I found it aborted all the hits, as long as I drank the whole darn thing. If I sipped, it would stop the pain for a few minutes, but it would come back. Since you're young and healthy, my guess is that it would be ok a few times a day. Be careful, though, it will keep you awake.

It's the caffeine.. it also can begin a cycle of more and more... and finally failure. works in a pinch. Don't drink to much for to long. Shocked Coffee works best. Mountian Dew is good because you can slug three cans real fast and it doesn't burn the throat.

Nani & JB,

thank you for your advices. Smiley

I have no intention to use RB or any other energy drink often. I think of them as meds. But I must admit that I prefer staying up to many other side effects I've had in the past! Grin But luckily I got hit early yesterday...

Best wishes & PFdays,

I find the Red Bull kind of helps ward off my just-after-running hits. Right as I start to feel a little tightening behind the eyeball after I get in from running I slam the Red Bull and most of the time it works to ward it off. If it doesn't then I go to O2 and that has done the ticket.

Sanna, my experience with red bull and mountain dew has not been that great, because I think the citric acid is a trigger for me. I use the starbucks espresso & cream doubleshot in a can, which has lots of caffeine and abort almost 100% of my headaches if I drink it fast as soon as I feel it starting.

Jose,

its interesting that you mention citric acid as being one of your triggers. Is it common?

I've often thought that it might be a trigger for me, too.

That was interesting information. I'm constantly trying to figure out what things might trigger ch for me. Thank you for that tip! Smiley We don't have Starbucks in Finland, but I'm going to look at similar drinks which are available. Smiley

Hi,

I have not used RED  BUll   but if you look at my post in the  "it's  a miracle"   section,  the  tea recipe  provides  energy  as well but  more  important --  daily  relief.

I have been drinking this mixture  4X  a day and have not had a full blown  headache  for  6   days.    I am in the  midddle  of  my cycle  so for  me  this is  unheard  of.

If you try,  please let me know  if it works  for  you.

Leanne, I don't know if it's common or not. I haven't seen it from anybody else here, though I keep writing about it in case it may help somebody else. Anytime I take anything with citric acid, I'll get a hit within 20 minutes.

I know... I just wonder that how long we can avoid it, though. We have lots of other coffee chains and junk food chains and more seems to on their way. Somebody told me that we used to have Burger King and that KFC was planning to arrive, but then decided not to.

Mikey, I read your post about that tea. I'm not sure if I can get all the ingredients back here, though. Generally my ch seems to be irritated about all things hot. But I'm glad that you shared your discovery. It can help many others in here, too! Smiley That's why I think it's important that we post about the things we've tried. I hope that it keeps on working for you! Smiley

I tried Red Bull for the first time the other day on a K3 and it worked within about 5 minutes, don't know if it's a one off yet but I will be carrying some around with me when travelling.
Kind Regards

Try Vault.  It is the Coke equiv to MD's energy soda.  Here you can try it for 89 cents for a 20 oz while the MD one is 1.69 in the same place.  It also is a decent citrus soda (if you like that).

I used to drink the Starbucks bottles you find at the market, but they cost 1.50+ each and at 1/2 the price Vault gives me a bit of relief.

Sanna, RB helps every now and then for me but I know that when in cycle I cannot touch my daily Vita C, it seems to be a trigger, like for Jose.

Luckily I don't like citrus products in general, my problem is staying away from salty foods which in large quantities also act as a trigger.

Strong coffee and tea, that is my thing and Mozambique is renowned for their strong espressos.

Okay, I admit it, I tried Red Bull-gotta be the nastiest tasting and smallest can of stuff I've ever tried. At $2.19 per can, it should have rocked my world, increased my sex drive, enabled me to leap tall buildings, ect.  It didn't.  However, it kicked butt for the shadows.  I had to chug it, too nasty to sip.
Have been trying other energy drinks, comparing the amounts of B vitamins and taurine and caffeine.  Some are totally lame.  Guess it's gotta taste like crap to work Roll Eyes
My motto:  whatever gets you through the night, and day, and improves your quality of life-go for it.

FYI:  Red Bull has 1000mg of Taurine in each serving.

This just came up in another thread, but because of the number of people here on verapamil, I felt it was important to get this in here:

http://www.med-owl.com/clusterheadaches/tiki-index.php?page=Taurine

According to this Taurine page on the med-owl site,

"CAUTIONS

Taurine should not be taken if you are currently on a prescription for Verapamil or any other calcium channel blocker. Until more is learned, it is wise to assume that Taurine may increase the action of Verapamil, which could slow the heart excessively, causing irregular heart beats and possibly a heart attack. It is also not clear if Taurine would interact with other medicines like Sodium Valproate or Lithium."

This doesn't mean there IS problem - it means they don't know.  But if anyone on verapamil is using red bull to abort attacks, you may want to consider talking to your doc about combining verapamil and Taurine.

I'm not sure if it was this thread or another one I was reading earlier, but I'm so glad I did.  The RedBull works great for me to eliminate shadows.  It's almost instantaneous relief and if I have a couple throughout the day I can avoid the smaller hits all together.  Too bad the stuff is so damn expensive...people are complaining about the price of gas, try buying a gallon of this stuff...geeze!

Jake,

I'm glad that RB helps you, too. Smiley

RB is pricey here in Finland, too. So I have checked out other brands as well. One called Power King, which is available just in one store chain back here, works for me, too. It costs 50% less than RB. The ingredients are the same and taste is nearly.

I have bought couple other cheaper energy drinks as well. I've made sure that they have as much caffeine and taurine than Red Bull. So far, as long as I've had ice cold energy drink, it has stopped the attacks quicker than the other meds I've tried in the past.
