How recently before CH do you mean? That depression had occured at some point or it was very recent or current at the onset of CH?

| I mean the years before CH started(I cannot say diagnosed because a lot of us were diagnosed only years after our first hit), when we all were 'normal Jane's and Joe's', were depression a part of your life? Early depression in life, like our collective insomnia in the days before CH, might be a sign that there was already a problem with the Hypothalamus before the first hit. Then what triggered the first hit? Why does it seem that kids at a younger and younger age start with CH? If it is genetic are there a combination of signs we can watch out for regarding our own kids? Previously many assumptions about who are more likely to be Cluster Heads were made by our exterior looks but maybe we should start looking at the trends of what we would describe as the inner person or emotional person. It is noted that most CHers are, in some or other way, artistically creative, thus more right hand brained. A lot of what make you who you are has to do with the chemicals and interactions of your brain of which the Hypothalamus controls/dictates. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypothalamus

I've had post natal depression - don't know if that counts in the same way.. same cause or whatever. I do know it's bloody miserable though. I don't think Jasper has ever shown any signs of depression (I'm serious, I know that may sound sarcastic but it isn't) He has always been a really contented child, easily pleased, plays well with others, interested in everything and up to all sorts! Apart from when he had croup and the usual sniffles and snots as a baby he has never been sick. Also I don't necessarily think kids are starting younger.. I think they are just getting diagnosed earlier in some cases. Jasper's first neuro didn't believe kids could get CH at first and how many neuro's do we know who don't think women get them? How many people here know they suffered CH as a child too? More than one or two I'll bet.

I've pretty much had depression all my life as it is hereditary. I was diagnosed with chronic depression about 5 years ago.

I suffered very much of depression before my first CH hit and I still have my bouts, in cycles and out. Mel my depression also started about when I was 10 or 11... pubirty? Insomnia has always been a problem since childhood.

Virtually everyone suffers from some form of depression during their lives-from situational to chronic to psychotic- but the number of CH sufferers is so low that I can't conceive of a connection between the two.

Interesting… Although I have been dealing with episodic bouts of CH since 1979 it was not until they became chronic in 2003 that I sought medical help. Before that in 2001 I started Zoloft for OCD which did seem to help with both sleep and what I thought were headaches related to stress. Now I just can’t sleep, am obsessed, compulsive, depressed, and still chronic.
