Hi Charlie,
Always good to see this method brought up again. I still must not be understanding just how to make this work. I try and try, but I think I'm missing something?
Since I've had to learn to cope without meds, and although my method is different, I still think there may be something to your method.
With many years of practice, I can "cope" up to Kip Pain Level 8. A Kip 8 in my book is extremely painful, 9 and 10 are beyond my control. (Plus, no offense to anyone ... but I don't believe there is such a thing as a Kip 10+ or 10 +++)
I believe the pain of a CH attack 8 or above is such incredible pain, the brain does not know how to react, hence, we lose control and will try anything to stop the pain, including injuring ourselves on purpose. Over the years I've tried to "teach" my brain how to react to all attacks and thereby making my coping actions almost automatic. I cannot control the pain though, only have learned how to stay calm through it up through level 8.
I'd love to learn how to lessen the pain though as well.
 In your site you say:
I was given less than five minutes instruction in the use of method. The doctor, while placing his arm on his desk, showed me that he could slightly increase his arm and hand circulation. After several attempts, I was able to repeat this procedure and use it successfully.
Please feel free to talk to me like I'm 5 years old and you're instructing me on how to do this  Embarassed
I practically have this method memorized, I stick it out for long times and am far past getting frustrated over no success. I do think their is at least something here and it's just something I'm not catching on to.
Want to keep trying, any help you can be would be appreciated. I must need:

Thanks,
Dave

This was taught to me in a similar fashion while connected to a puter/bio-feedback setup.

The puter had a pyramid-grid on the screen and the idea was to fill-in the pyramid by way of thought process [bio-feedback] by 'thinking' the blood into your arms and hands......'my hands are getting warmer'.

It does work with a bit of practice. The puter hookup was only to prove it worked by providing a visual of the blood flow and rise in temp in the arms, hands and digits.

Hardest part is to fully concentrate on nothing but redirecting blood flow instead of the pain.

Similar to a relaxation technique….if you want to drain the stress from your mind and body, imagine a sink full of water….slowly open the drain and watch as the water swirls down the drain….this represents the stress and tension leaving your system. I have used this in some very stressful situations and find that I can calm myself to a level of ‘coping’. I can literally feel the stress ‘drain’ as I visualize that water drain from the imaginary sink…..a few slow, deep  breaths afterwards, a couple relaxing words of encouragement and I am ready to move on.

Hope this helps.

Peace,
dan

Thanks Dan,
 It does help somewhat.

This could be a part of my problem, I do tend to spend much time thinking about the pain and how to control my reactions to it. (Sometimes concentrating so hard I forget to breath, which of course throws everything off and I'm back on the floor.)

This makes sense, I know we can do many things with our minds. I think I could manage to do this with practice with a computer/bio-feedback setup. Where does one find one of these? A certain type of specialist? Maybe even a software program we could set up on our own computer? (I imagine that's a stretch, but worth asking.)
Thanks for your input Dan, does give me something else to consider as I'll keep trying.

Guess it's always good to ask! Thanks Dan, some good information on these sites. I thought asking about home computer software would sound somewhat stupid, but sure enough, they do have them. At first, I thought they were somewhat expensive, but then I also think about how much each new doctor visit and new medication costs (which have never worked so far) and in the long run may actually be cheaper. I haven't given up yet on meds although they seem to do more harm than good for myself, I'll even try the Zomig Nasal trials. Imitrex Nasal/w Oxygen did not abort CH attacks, but did lessen the pain to tolerable states for a  while, but eventually quit working at all.
Interesting thing I saw in the O'hare site was the mention of use of bio-feedback by physical rehabilitation therapist.
Saw my doctor Tuesday and got a referral to a physical rehabilitation therapist starting Monday. Just have to hope Medicare will help cover this as through the exhaustive list of specialists and testing done on me over the last 7 months there has still been no diagnosis.
My doc wrote in why he feels I need the therapy, including chronic muscle pain and weakness and even CH. I've managed to get myself out of the wheelchair and at least walking, which is painful, but simple tasks like bending over are extremely difficult still and I fall over a lot  Embarassed
I'll check with this therapist right away about bio-feedback. I've become a medical nightmare, having Chronic CH, Anxiety Disorder and this mysterious "disorder?" now. Possibly this bio-feedback could help in more than one area, I'm willing to give anything a try.
I've pretty much forgotten what a pain free day would even feel like or hopefully longer. The doctors aren't getting me there, so I'm looking into many alternative methods.
Thanks to both you and Charlie for another possiblity at a chance to try something else.
Dave

Biofeed back is very helpful with anxiety disorders as well, Dave.  I know that in some of my labs in college we sat in on clients that would come in and listen to tapes that would walk them through a healing center. And you could see people calm down while it was going on. It might give you a little direction to focus on rather then the pain.
