Switching sides is very rare from what I hear, my CH switches sides in the middle of a cycle, I've always had CH on both sides, very rare monkey indeed!   Smiley

The existing information that I can find on this subject suggests if it switches sides during an episode, it is not CH.

However, many here have experienced it, and this does not really address chronics.  I believe that this diagnostic criteria is no longer valid, although some doctors will most likely still use it.  Continuously switching sides is something totally different.

I am chronic and I went from right to left December 2003.

Mel is correct.  There has been numerous discussions here on this subject.

mick,

I guess it's unusual for it to switch sides, but mine did it a few weeks ago.  It only stayed switched for two days, but it hurt like hell for those two days.  First time it's ever done it, and I hope it's the last.

Seems you can feel the pain more on that fresh side.

I have had clusters for over 30 years and 70% of the time they are on the right side.  However, the last few cycles starting in 2000, I have experienced double cycles in which I would have 2-3 months on one side... PF for a few days, just long enough to think I am done... then *WHAM* it starts up on the other side for another 2-3 months!   Angry

Pain seems more intense on the right vs. left side...

Sure nuff. I'm left sided episodic but during my chronic years it would start on the left, hammer me for an hour aat a 7 or 8 aand then ,while the left was calming down, the right would be cranking up to a solid 10 for another hour or so. It didn't do it every day but when it did it totally wasted the day.
