HHS UPDATE:

As short update on the fax to request a meeting with the Secretary of HHS, Mr. Tommy Thompson.

The fax is in its final stages of preparation and will be going out by Feb. 27th. This will be followed up by a phone call to insure receipt of the fax by the Secretary’s Scheduling Officer.

Upon receipt of the meeting date, a small committee of persons to attend will be chosen and travel plans will be arranged. This group will be chosen from those who have so graciously offered their support and time to assist me in this endeavor to be heard and get something done.

I will post an update to the CH board, informing all of the date and time of this meeting, and follow up with the results and Mr. Thompson’s comments and concerns.

Thank you all for your continued support.
Dan

I caught a recent article which Mr. Thompson is quoted in.  This is one of his endeavors, just a couple paragraghs:

Hospitals Urged to Cut Charges for Uninsured
By MARK SHERMAN, AP

WASHINGTON (Feb. 19) - The government on Thursday urged hospitals to cut charges for uninsured patients, rejecting hospitals' argument that they are constrained by federal rules.

Uninsured patients often are charged the full retail price for medical procedures, unlike members of private and government health plans that negotiate steep discounts for hospital care.

Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson said there are no legal impediments to offering similar relief to the uninsured, regardless of their income.

"Nothing in the Medicare program rules or regulations prohibit such discounts," Thompson wrote Richard J. Davidson, president of the American Hospital Association, which represents nearly 5,000 hospitals.

A very informative websight re anything to do with HHS, is www.hhs.gov
