2004 Year of the Monkey( non-CH)

Now that I have your attention... Wouldn't ya know it, I'm a monkey sign (according to the Chinese zodiac.) Anyway, I posted recently to the board that I was hating life in Janesville at my job. Reasons being that I am not getting enough hours to make the trip worthwhile and that my boss has "all the personality of a box of rocks". So... I went proactive in my search for gainfull , well, at least worthwhile employment. Upon wakening this morning I called a former manager that I worked for in Rockford and basically put myself at his mercy for hours and pay, stating that I needed a Job and asking if he had room for me. The response I recived was what I expected ( labor cost, hours not available ...yada yada) BUT, interestingly enough they were advertising and currently interviewing for assistant managers, and If I wished I could bring him a resume and he would put in a good word for me. I revised my resume, printed it and off I went to turn it in. I wore street clothes (not expecting anything) and ended up in a two hour interview with the General Manager for the afore mentioned opening. Feeling stupid that I appeared in "Civies" and TOTALLY NOT prepared to interview NOW I reluctantly filled out the appropriate paperwork and awaited this man to have a chat. Two hours later I am all but hired (the interview went unexpectedly well, at least I THINK so) leaving to words of I'll be in touch and call me (handing over a business card) if you have any questions that we didn't cover. So here's the skinny.... 30K a year (5-7 grand more than now)starting plus bonuses (proving numbers are good , naturally) full medical insurance including dental (if I want it), Life insurance and 401K being considdered by the franchise owner. THE PLUS SIDE: More money, Good benefits, a rotating 3 wk schedule (60hr avg.) and a realistic opportunity for advancement from within (franchise owner possibly opening a new store in Gurnee, Ill no farther really than Janesville from here) Oh and full salary and all expenses paid while training. THE MINUS SIDE: Up to ten weeks training in Columbus Ohio, no babysitter while Woobie is working (she works nights) Although the pluses outwheigh the minuses the no sitter thing is a HUGE deal. My kids really can't be left alone every night for up to 10 weeks. (School, meals, and general supervision) SO HERE IS THE QUESTION: What should I do? The opportunity is too good to pass up (if offered) but, I got family obligations as well. Monkey fucked, Ramon

Ok folks, The "get a sitter" answer is probably gonna be the status quo I reckon. I posted this BEFORE I had a chance to discuss it with Woobie. I have now had the opportunity to talk it over with her and she has given the ok to do what I gotta do. So, T_H_B and Kim, thanks fer the perspective. If anyone out there has any "alternative" ideas please feel free to share them..... thanks, Ramon

Congrats on the prospective job Ramon. Sounds like a hell'uva deal. If there was any way possible, I'd come babysit for you....wish I could. Greg's not letting me too far away from him right now. Do what you gotta do to get a sitter...buy one, steal one, white slavery.... Good luck with it all...let us know!

Yeah, he discusses thing with CH.com before he discussed them with me ... GEESH! Guess I know how I rate in the scheme of things...... ANyhow - I told him to do what he needs to do, and we'll figure it out when and if we have to . Things always work out - we'll figure it out. SO - does anyone wanna come stay with me for 10 weeks?????????????? I dont want just a sitter - i want a NANNy for 10 weeks. I want someone to cook and clean and do the grocery shopping and do homework with the kids and all that stuff. not so much to ask.... is it? I need a wife - that's what I need. A house bitch. A domestic goddess - a merry maid. any volunteers? dreamin ......... Tina

Well, got the message (late) this morning.... Called the G.M. back this morning (missed his message)and I have been selected to meet with the "owner" of the franchise. (from what I gather it is just a courtesy thing between them) Just waiting to hear when. And then I suppose its the final yay or nay from there. Just an update. Ramon
