Well I have sleep apnea on top of clusters that causes yet another kind of headache due to build up of carbon dioxide in the brain....but at least I will get my oxygen now!!

For others: http://www.achenet.org/articlessave/52198/weintraub.htm Just a portion of the article found at site above: " Cluster headaches are a one-sided severe headache attack that is usually accompanied by nasal stuffiness and eye tearing, and frequently occur during nighttime. There has been an association of these attacks to REM sleep, and research has noted an increased incidence of sleep apnea in patients who experience cluster headaches. " At one point in time, it was estimated that 75% of Cluster Headache sufferers had undiagnosed sleep apnea. I am not sure if that percentage still holds true but it is something to think about & have checked out. Had my sleep study done also. No apnea here, but I did find out I have Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS). A link about RLS: http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/sleep/rls.htm Here is a link about apnea, if interested: http://www.sleepapnea.org/geninfo.html Also: http://www.sleepapnea.org/brochure.html hopefull, I am glad you found out. Are you going to be using the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) method/treatment ? http://www.sleep-apnea.ab.ca/treat.htm Get some rest. Pain Free, Apnea Free, sleep to you.

Hi there this seem to be as good a place as any for a new guy to join in. I also have apnoea, and have done so all my life, well since puberty anyway, and I'm 50 now. I've had a cpap for about 6 or 7 years and wouldn't do without it. My ch started as chronic in my early 20's and went episodic about 6 or 7 years ago, maybe that's a coincidence - don't know ? I'm in a cluster right now, the worst I've ever had which is why I'm here, and yesterday / today I had the longest, severest attack of my life - 14 hours, 4 of which were screamers. I've got some other suspicions about stress are there any old threads here about ch and stress ? Thanks Dave

| Hi Dave/mudplugga Good question! I too have noticed stress as a factor in my CH. I don't know if there is any concrete evidence, one way or another though. Sorry you are having such a rough go of it lately. Welcome aboard. Pain Free Wishes To You.

Thanks for the response guys ...mudplugga I'm so sorry to hear your having such pain....you are in my prayers... Have to go to nuero Friday to find out what the next step really is but the lady that did the test said she wouldn't be surprised to see me back real soon for the CPAP test while she could not tell me details I did have stopped breathing and my oxygen got down to 84 where the organs are affected....but I only slept 3 hours and woke with a headache....she also said I only had delta sleep (deep sleep) once at the very begining for a very short period of time almost none really......wish I could find a one med fits all.... S.A. headaches clusters and migrains....it's like russian ruelet(?) when the pain starts....Thanks again guys!

Stress, not me. I've been ch free during some of the most stressful times of my life ((job deadlines) and have been hammered during some of the most relaxing times (on a live aboard dive boat in the Carribean). Go figger. And there ain't much room to pace on a boat. Kip

Thanks guys, this is one busy board ! there's a lot of pain out there I have my suspicions about psychological trauma / stress / depression and ch - but as we know, nothing seems to be conclusive when it comes to triggers or reasons. I'll start another topic and see what turns up ??? Dave
