Hello, I've been an irregular reader of this board for some time, but never became a member. I decided to join now to help my nieces through their headaches.

I've had cluster headache for approximately 12 years now. It's been under control for about 7 when my doctor and I found that Verapamil (Calan) works for me. I am currently in a cycle. I normally start out taking 480mg daily for about 3 days and work it down to 240mg daily. My cycle usually lasts 5-7 weeks.

I just found out that 2 of my nieces ages 15 and 23 are like me. The older one has migraines but the younger one has cluster headaches. I directed them to this site and hopefully they will get something out of this site like I have.

Welcome Louis,

Sorry you had to find this site but glad to have you aboard [a statement i'm sure you have repeated many times already].

A recent newcomer myself, it has opened my eyes to 'what' I am actually afflicted with, and made it a whole lot easier to deal with.

In the short time i have been here I have found support and caring, a wealth of information, and the strentgh to dump my egotistical Neuro and find one that will listen and help. Not to metion becomng pain-free for almost 2 weeks now.

Read, research, ask questions. There is always someone on-line to respond.

Peace and wishing you PFDAN,

Louis i'm glad that verapimil works for you, i don't have your luck.  I feel for your nicies.  I had migrians untill i was 14 and then they became CHs.  Imetrix and maxalt have worked best for my migrians as for the clusters... well pray for your 15 year old neice. Best of luck.  One person in a family is enough three must be hell.  I've found both help and a home here i hope that both you and your nicies can do the same.

Wellcome and goodluck to all of you.
