Think I Nailed the Beast this time around

Brothers and Sisters, I'd like to take a moment and thank everyone, DJ and the O.U.C.H. site for the wondrous support, kind words and wealth of information I have garnered since joining on 1/20/04. I Have learned much about The Beast, the many different possible treatments, and most of all, how many of you cope. I experimented with the dopeymax, took myself from 25mg x2 to 100mg x2 and have now been completely PF for 7 days. I can drink as much alcohol as I wish without any repercussions…..happy days are here again!!! I finally get to see my Neuro tomorrow morning and am armed with 40+ pages of info, highlighted and underlined with notes in the margins. I hope and pray that he will make time for me so may discuss a plan of attack for next years episode [not sure if my taking dopeymax to 100mg is the correct answer in the long run even though it worked this time]. BTW: for those of you that have already read or will read my last post to Chman concerning the 357, don’t worry…..the weekend of 1/17 was my low point. I am happy to report that the weapon is locked in the safe and that is where it will stay…..I have far too many reasons to live. Anyway, just wanted to post some good news to give all something to hang onto. Thanks again, your bro in fight the Demon, -dan

Congrats MAG. Glad to hear the Beast has left you. Hopefully the bastard won't be back for a long long time.

Great news on getting rid of the beast. Lets hope it stays gone. Time to get rid of that fucking gun too! Why do so many Americans feel the need to keep a cannon at home? John

Dopeymax been's doing a job one the beast for me too. I struggled for a while with Cafegot...for two friggin months before I finally got to see the neuro who instantly (well he considered my BP meds and then came to the conclusion of Topamax) came to the idea of "el Dopa" as a preventative... Now, apparently, this isn't the silver bullet for everyone. I suspect it's far better for episodic sufferers than chronic...my gut feeling tells me that ling term use will have gastric and personality consequences. But damn does it do a number on the pain! 357, glad to hear you're feeling better too! I see the neuro tomorrow. I have a few days of 100 mg tabs left. I'm gonna suggest to him that he give me another couple samples of 25 mg tabs (41 25 mg tablets), and I ramp down to quickly to 25 mg a day something like this: 100 mg a day up to Sunday Monday, start 50 mg a day for 5 days (10 tabs) then Saturday start 25 mg a day for 5 days...5 tabs That'll leave me some extras in case I start to feel any shadows. But I think by then I might have beaten back the beast too! But my body and mind tells me this is not good stuff to stay on long term...
