I cant find it my GP disagrees with me on drinking coffee so I want to print it off and take it to him, along with all the other print-outs I have. Maybe this will make him see sense! Janet

Janet It is on the medications board, but rather than printing off something from a load of laymen which I doubt will impress him, why not tell him that caffeine and also cafergot are medically recognised treatments for CH? Or even easier, just nod your head, lie and keep taking the caffeine without telling him and concentrate your discussion on getting the right meds without clouding the issue? The trouble about getting into a caffeine discussion at this stage is that he may just then prescribe caffeine and nothing else to teach you a lesson for being a know-all, and you won't get the 02 or more Imigran. Just my thoughts Wendy

I take 3 Extra Strength Excedrin (they contain caffine also) and drink some strong coffee at the "onset" of a CH. Then suck O2. This will abort mine (sometimes) if I get to them soon enough. If I don't get to them at the very start, then I have to do the cafergot. I agree with PB - don't irritate your doc - just do the caffine on your own. Do whatever works. Hugs BD

| Janet, get a new GP, please, if it is at all possible. There really are some decent MDs out there. None of them are perfect (mine tells really stupid jokes and is frequently getting divorced) but if you're not going to get proper treatment you need a new one. There are many headache meds that containe caffeine. Ask your pharmacist for a list to show your doctor. The names are often different in different countries but Fioricet is another one here and Neosaldina is still popular in South America though it's been banned in Europe. (I use it anyway--it didn't kill me--and it even helps with CH.) But remember that caffeine withdrawal can CAUSE headaches.

No, it's not a headache--it's a Stage Ten Primary Chronic Periodic Idiopathic Trigeminovascular Cephalalgic Crisis.

Years ago while being prescribed cafergot, the same doctor suggested cutting back on caffeine intake while in cycle. When I asked him about the caffeine in cafergot, he laughed and replied that ergotamine (sp?) was the main active ingredient in cafergot and that the caffeine was "secondary and an insignificant amount". As far as telling your doctor that you'll do one thing and doing the opposite, I would suggest using common sense and your better judgement with that. (hopefully, they are not mutually exclusive) for what its worth, grant

Wendy -- you hit it right on the head I also think he is just a stingy so & so who wont prescribe them. I think Im in a pain-free relapse - this one started November that was 10 weeks ago and today - so far (fingers crossed) no sign of CH. But coffee I shall drink anyway, Janet
