Ice Treatment ?'s

Hey all, Does any one know what packing your head in ice until your head goes numb does to the brain? yes I'm back to annoy you all. hopefully for a much longer session this time. before I left for a nice relaxing vacation in Texas. I was hit really hard the weekend before we left. After exhausting all my meds the only thing that finally killed the attack was surrounding my head in ice packs until I literally numbed the brain of all feeling. Anyone out there know the repercussions of this? regardless i'm going to go with what works but I would also like to know what this "treatment" is doing to my brain. i have very little brains cells as it is. I hope this finds you all well. Cheers, ~Juvy

I have never thought of any repurcussions from the ice packs. Maybe though, it will freeze the little brain cells you have left and preserve them for later use. I wouldn't think that it would do much harm, I don't think it would cause hypothermia. I don't know, I don't even know why I am posting.

| But Deb, that didn't affected his internal brain, only froze his external one. Remember men have 2 brains!

If you didn't get frostbite on the flesh on your head (God I hope you didn't!!!) then I can't imagine you could have hurt your brain as there is bone and fluid in the way as well as Charlie says. Wendy (the Brit) P.S. Good to see you here again Juvy. Sorry you are being hit so badly

I don't know, I've only ever put ice on my eye until my eye goes partially numb. At the time it seems perfectly sane, only afterwards do I start thinking about frostbite. --- Steve

All joking aside, the only time that I have ever come close to this was at work. I had no meds, could not leave again and HAD to get from 1pm to 5. I filled a gallon size baggie with Ice and a Little water to mold better and held in to the back of my head behind my ear on the left side while i worked with one hand the rest of the day. It felt better once I got used to the cold. Even still have the baggie in the freezer for when I need it. I dont see where it can hurt you as long as you soft tissue is not effected or damaged. | Since the brain has no nerves how would you know the brain was numb? Seriously though, I can't imagine packing your head in ice packs is going to get anything cold enough to cause any damage. The only thing that will be numb is the nerves between the skin and the skull.

| ROFLMAO hehe I dont think that has anything to do with the current condition that we are all suffering from. I hear that diamonds have a way of melting that ice.

I say go for it! This is my first experience with CH and the hotness and burning was just unbearable. I went around with an ice pack on my head day and night for 5 days straight. The coolness and yes, numbness does bring some measure of relief. I asked my neurologist and she said it was fine to continue the ice as long needed. Best of Luck

Hello there Juvi, The ice treatment works for me alot. I could be wrong(although it would most definantly be the very first time if I were) but I thought that getting into a warm bath with ice at the base of your head works well because,in that condition, Your blood is being pulled toward you body and relieving pressure in the ole' nogin. Sooo...with that theory, you would'nt be numbing it so much as relieving pressure...??? did that make sense?? I don't know if it did to me....I hope that made sense. ..Back to reading... ..Mark..
