Meeting Jack Frost

First time CH sufferer - first time poster. I'm 35 years old - male - from Seattle and 5 weeks now into this life altering experience. My wife diagnosed me early on and has been my guardian angel throughout the whole ordeal. She has been visiting this site quite a bit and telling me all about it. This is the first time I've felt well enough to get on and post myself. I was fortunate enough to see a neuro in week 3. I got the dose of steroids. I'm also on Topamax, Verpamil (was on long acting, now on short acting). O2 helps often, but I grow weary of it. Lately, I find that an ice pack on the head is the way to go. Imitrix at those most desparate hours. Went several days with no sleep and the anxiety of it all just makes my heart race which just makes it all worse. Desparate for anything, went to go see a friend who is an acupuncturist and the treatment was wonderful. It doesn't relieve the pain per se as much as help me deal and interrupt the pain cycle. Been back to see her 3 times. She taught my wife some points and sent us home with some needles so she needles me during the bad attacks. Anyway, about Jack Frost.... So this morning we woke up to snow in Seattle which is a big deal because it rarely snows here. So we were all looking out the window and suddenly there was a terrible crash as a car comes crashing through the fence in our front yard and smashes into a big brick column next to our driveway. Pieces of woods and shrubbery and dirt and snow went flying everywhere. We looked at each other and just started laughing. It was such a comic relief after all that we'd been through the past several weeks. So anyway, the poor guy, big as a grizzley bear, comes to the door all shaken by the accident. He was not hurt and declined to come inside and sit down and instead offers to pay for the damage and just leave. He jots down his contact information on a piece of paper. I glance down in disbelief at his name: Jack Frost

I've been suffering for 25 years. I recently found the site and great info a couple of weeks ago. Good...really good people here. Love the story, keep fighting, and hopefully soon you will be PF again.

Hey toader, Welcome - isn't it great to find a place that helps it all make SENSE - at least a little. (I've been "on board" for a few months...learned more here than in all the doc visits I've had in the past 20 years of this crud...) Too funny about Jack Frost - poor guy! Nice that your wife is so supportive - does she know about the support board? Have a great new year - hopefully PF!! Chris

Welcome aboard. You'll find some good ideas here and ways to deal with this horror. I'm glad you seem to be getting some relief and that you have some support. It's priceless. Here is a link to a technique that was very helpful to me: http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/ Stick around and let us know how you're doing. Charlie

I'm so glad this site is here, but every time I hear about a new member, my heart breaks. To know that this affliction is reaching yet another real victim is just, well, painful. toader, I wish you the best. Stay here and read as much as you can. It might not be 'the thing' that makes you pain free, but it will give you the hope you need, the understanding you crave and the compassion you deserve. It's a cranky family, but do you know any clusterheads who aren't cranky? Heh. Anyway, it's just like any family you'd ever love to be part of... Welcome to the other universe... the one where people understand the meaning of real pain. It's a small club. -Fu

Guess I slept a little last night cuz I woke up to the sound of fireworks and my wife and I held each others hand and quietly brought in the New Year together without pain or tears. We live moment to moment. Charlie - thanks for the link - I will give that a try Everyone else ... thanks for the support and hellos and Happy 04!
