I'm a new member but have a 50 year history of classical intermittent cluster headache. I am interested in finding out if any other sufferers have (like me ) also developed angina-like chest pain occuring with similar clustering, especially nocturnal, causing pain radiating to one side of the throat, made worse with trinitrin and eased with 100% oxygen. This has not been previously described in the medical literature.

Hi stanislaus....this may be really 'far fetched' but was wondering if you could maybe...possibly....be sufferin from the reflux esophagitis deal......that can come on with stress esp of CH cycle beginning. I may be way off here....type in GERD and do a search. I never associated the throat pain like being strangled and pain in my chest and down my arm with it....scared me !! But found out recently that's what it is. A blan diet and reduceing stress (yeah rite) and meds will help. Alot of new stuff available....even the Pecid Complete 'can' work for sum depending on degree of course. (Nexium and Previcid scripts are good) It does have angina type symtoms....and not so uncommon I am finding out but varies in degrees like I said and can be serious.....but it's sumthin you SHOULD have checked out just to be sure esp if it "IS" heart related !!!!! Stress is a factor....along with age ect ect ect. Good luck to you. Pam-Coots-with-reflux

;D ;D Stan, You didn't mention if you are on any meds or not, If your taking any of the triptans, sumatriptan(imetrex) in particular I can tell you that Angina is a very common side affect from this medication, I have it so bad that I can not take any of the triptans at all! Pappy

Stanilus, I get the pain on one side of my throat, though it does not go as far as my chest. It usually hurts my throat if I don't take the abortive as soon as a CH starts. I asked Manjit about this (Proff Goadsby's registrar) he said it was not un common for CH sufferers to have pain in the throat on the same side as the CH. Never had chest pain though. Steve

Hi Stan, welcome to the board. Pam-Coots and Pappy both may be on to something. I too suffer from ulcers and reflux. Proton pump inhibitors have kept it under control but I have suffered some of the symptoms you described. However I never related them directly to my CH. I offer another consideration.....I was not familier with the drug Trintrin, so I Googled and came up with this. Seems trintrin is similiar to nitro-glycerine, which will cause a clusterheadache in a New York Minute...see here. I also came across this which came from the OUCH library. PFDAN's Mark
